The iron block LS junk is a lot more durable than the Windsor (which says a lot, because the big W can usually handle 700 or so at the crank). That would be the one distinct advantage that I see, ignoring the fact that LS stuff comes from the factory with much better top end parts than the W ever did. That can be made up for with buying aftermarket parts, though. :D

Again, weight and engine placement cant even be matched, it sits 2" further back and 3-4" lower then the windors in the bay. Irrelevant to drag racing(not totally) But in the would of carving thats some impressive highly sought after ****.

Damn, I was just shopping junkyard 5.4s on the internet, and I can't find hardly anything for less than $2K. It ain't cheap being a Ford guy. Guess I'll stick with my pushrod junk for now.

yep stock rod bolts, I think I put em at 55ft. mains were at 80ft, .00075 main and rod clearance. yes .75 of a a thousanth. We were running 5-20 oil in it.

I know 2 people local that have navi motors decently cheap.

I understand the weight thing, but placement of the engine can be pretty much anywhere you want it when you're talking about a completely custom swap like an LS into a Fox. With an LS swap, you're looking at custom or aftermarket mounts, K member, clutch setup, driveshaft, trans, etc. If you go the "easy" route with a Windsor, and just drop it in on the stock mounts and K member, sure, it may sit higher/further forward than an LS might. But if you're willing to go with aftermarket mounts, K member, etc (which you likely would with an LS swap anyway), you could pretty much put it anywhere in the bay that a LS would go.

By the way, I was just doing some Googling... It looks like a 351 Windsor block is around 170ish lbs. Aluminum LS1 is 120ish, and the iron LS1... 200+ :eek:

Of course, the factory iron LS1 supposedly holds together at well over 1000 hp, so, I could justify the extra weight there!

Damn, that is some tight clearance. IIRC, I was around .001-.0015 with OTS rebuild parts. What did you do to get it so tight? (That's what he said.)

How much for the Navi motors?

Nope, I have my engine as low and as far back as possible, same exact k member and suspension and it sits FAR lower then mine. So far back the intake touches the fire wall. Members have been using MM k members with ls swaps lately. Jeff showed me a certain thread i'll pm it to you as its not of this board. It really is amazing.

The LS has basically the exact same bore spacing as the SBF, so if you move back a SBF until it touches the firewall and do the same with a LS, there is going to be the exact same gap between the front of the block and the radiator, ignoring the accessories. So I'm still confused about how a LS can sit further back than a SBF...
 
Engine sits lower in the bay so it can go further into the tunnel then the sbf can. So why not drop the engine and do the same? The intake interferes

Put both engines as the same height and yes, it wont go back further then the sbf. But there is no reason to do that.

I don't see how that tunnel has anything to do with it, the trans tunnel is way too low/small to tuck the LS into. Look at these pics, this guy's LS is clearly not going to tuck into the trans tunnel. The back of his cylinder heads/intake VS the firewall is the limiting factor, just like with a SBF.

I still just don't see how you're getting an LS any further back than a SBF.

Its been a while since i looked at my buddy's car. But last i did he had more room in the front of his engine then i did. Maybe i know after set back my intake, egr tube and bellhousing was touching the firewall. I assumed since he had more distance up front his was further back, of course this was with an aje k no an MM. Guess thats what i get for assuming. Maybe the ls with accessories is overall shorther then the ls, if thats the case, the its the same as sitting further back, less weight towards the nose
 
I think around 1400, but if your serious I will build you a new one, that way it will last. modular parts are cheap, the only parts that are expensive are the cams. a ls stroker kit is damn near 4k. A teksid block with rods and pistons is well under 2 grand, but you make up for it with the cams.

as I type this my loser neighbor blows by in his ls3 520rwhp n/a gen 5 ****pile lol

Cams are expensive because you have to buy 4 times as many, haha.

Nah, I'm tired of spending gobs of money on my car. The heads alone were almost $2200! From here on out I'm going to be more budget minded. I guess I'll just stick with pushrod junk for now.

Same boat sort of, just need to finish the boost setup with larger injectors and a "different" pulley :D Calling it a day after that... If the 302 blows up, going to look at LS1, LS2 or a 32V mod motor :D
 
if you want a POS chevy motor, sell you mustang and buy a camaro....

I have never been a fan of the mod motors... i love my good old ford pushrod..... If i was to do anything other then that, it would probably be a new '11 5.0
