Hello,

I am a newbie here. First of all I would like to say this is a great forum. Very interesting reading. I would also like to say that I am just getting back into the 5.0 world since I bought my '93 Cobra. Take a look at my signature. This thing has had a lot of nice mods done to it. I have only got to drive it twice since I got it due to the snow around here. I will say it sounds fantastic, runs strong and pulls very hard in all gears. I have to learn about TB's, a/f ratios, burning chips etc. I am sure I will have many questions for all of you once I dive into this in the spring, but after reading about the mods in my signature, answer a few questions for me if you would. A few other details are the long block I believe is stock GT40. It has the stock 65mm TB. I am pretty sure it is running at 6 psi boost w 2 3/8 SC pulley.I see no signs of ingition upgrades. I believe the stock 24 lb injectors are still in there. From what I have heard, all of the mods that were done so far were done with top notch quality parts. Seems like money really was no issue with the previous owner. I have over $11,000 worth of reciepts for the upgrades which included all labor at a performance shop.

Here are my questions:

#1. How much RWHP and Tourqe do you think this car will make?
#2. What kind of 1/4 mile ET's do you think I can expect? (I am experienced at the strip.)
#3. How much HP gain will I see if I swap the Bassani X-pipe w/cats for an off road Bassani x-pipe?
#4. Is it an easy thing to have my REV Limiter increased? Is this something that can be burned on my original chip?
#5. What other mods would you recommend? Keep in mind, I would like to retain the original bottom end and I really would like to avoid blowing head gaskets and such.

Thanks in advance for your time!

Well there is no stock "chip", there are some chips available that do increase the rev limiter don't know which ones for your car. Weren't the head gaskets an issue for those year cars.. I would probably start looking into the rear end and possibly going with some better axles and diff. I don't think theres gonna be that much of a difference between the off road and the catted but I'm sure the off road will sound better...

6psi of boost is not enough power to worry about changing out rear end components.

My answers
1) If your engine is stock with a blower I am going to say you might make 300 rwhp and 370 torque.
2) High 12's on good tires
3) if the cats aren't clogged I would say minimal gains
4) yes it can be increased. Either with an ignition box incorporating a rev limiter (such as a 6al) or with a custom chip.
5) HEADS...a custom cam would not hurt either. Oh yeah I would up the boost too. 6 psi just isn't much boost. Up to 9 psi. Get the car dyno tuned with a chip.

Best mods that I have done on my 93 Cobra:
1) AFR 165 heads
2) Baer Brake front kit
3) 150 shot of nitrous.
4) AFM super king cobra clutch

Worse mod:
FRPP 'B' cam......This cam sucks. Pretty much no power gain over stock (10rwhp)

I can have a bone stock car and still want to look into the rear end....there are alot of benefits from doing so...harder launches, better traction, better ET's, the list goes on. Just my 2 cents...

I agree with swapping out Heads.....AFR makes some great heads. I'm betting you'll see awesome gains with your application.

your motor stock from factory was rated a 235 hp and just over 300 tq you more than likely are producing around 300 - 330 hp and about 350 - 380 tq but you wont really know until you dyno tune it. I absolutely agree with the AFR heads best head made for basically stock and mildly blown apps, if you are gonna increase boost 9psi is still very safe, make sure you get it tuned though. I have the bassani x w/cats you will only see about 2 - 3 hp difference between the two however the offroad will make you much louder, youll also lose a little tq with the offroad, but with your mods not enough to really notice. You cant burn a stock chip your computer has a place for a module or a seperate chip, I would deffinately get that done youll get a nice little spike in hp and tq from it; get a custom chip burned though and tell your tuner what you want and what he can program for timing and rev limiter, msd 6al ignition is awesome especially for n2o and blown apps. As for the rear end its not needed but if your gonna go big do it right. injector size isnt hurting you right now but it will with more boost same with maf meter and t body, so more boost = more air and fuel. My cars have never been blown but they will be soon, and lots of my friends have blown and nitro charged thier cars with no troubles. anyway im rambling and I hope it helps, and if there is something you cant figure out post it! Most of these guys on here are awesome and help at the drop of a hat.

Thanks for all the info guys. My goal is to run Mid to low 12's. I plan on having it dynotuned in the spring. I'll probably have them burn a chip for me at that time to increase the rev limiter. I am sure I will have more questions as time goes on. Thanks again for your responses.

With 6lbs of boost on a stock 95 Cobra motor, I made 346 rwhp and 376 rwtq.

I had headers, Borla catback, catted h-pipe, Pro-M 75mm meter, 36 lbs injectors, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 70mm throttle body, MSD igntion, and that was it. I had no chip. I used my AFPR and a timing gun to tune.

I then went to a SQ trim and upped the boost to 10. I got 400rwhp and 415rwtq and this time I changed the exhaust from Borla to dynomax and the h-pipe to a catted X. I also swapped out the 75mm MAF for an 80mm MAF. I still don't have a chip.

Right now, I've got a set of AL GT-40X heads sitting on my bench so I'm gonna throw those on with a cam and go for 450 rwhp or more.

I agree with LEE93COBRA's post. His numbers and recommendations are pretty accurate. One thing though, with your stock heads and intake, there isnt much point raising the rev limiter, because they cant breathe enough at high rpms anyway. Also, for a KB blown fox body, i'd go with 3.55 gears, if you do anything at all. You should have 3.08s in there stock, and the KB makes so much tq so low in the rpm range, any more gear will make it harder to launch. If anything, put your money into more boost and a good dyno tune. While it is definately possible to get a great running car without one, you just can't do the fine tuning that you can with a custom chip.
