Bassini Headers

All brands of shorty headers perform basically the same. I would save cash if I were you and go with something like MAC or BBK. As far as size, I would go with a 1 5/8.

Also to avoid headaches, I would go with unequal length headers. They install real easy, (a lot easier than = length shortys) and you will still get impressive gains. Also, any shorty header will bolt up to your stock h-pipe.

Will I have to jack up the motor to install equal lentg shorties?

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly does unequal header mean?Does one header come down farther then the other one?

On equal length headers, each cylinder tube is the same length. On un-equal length headers each cylinder tube length is not the same, they get shorter as you go toward the back of the head.

Yes, you have to jack up the motor to install equal lengths. They do out perform unequal length shortys, but only by 2-3 hp. In addition, it is harder to change your sparkplugs and the wires are know for getting burned. Believe me, I would pass on equal lengths and just go for the unequal length shortys. They go in just like the stock headers.

No,I know theres a ton of companys that make shorties, but I never new Ford did.

Yes, Ford Racing makes shorty headers. However they are pretty expensive. I think they are around $230. I actually recommend BBK headers. A couple stang buddys of mine have them and have no complaints. You can't beat the $159 price tag. :nice: Just my opinion.

some but nothing major, you'll just end up running hotter because the tubes are kinda tangled around eachother, and you'll almost always cook a couple plug wires because it's near impossible to keep them away from the tubes.

I've also never heard of losing low end torque with LTs? Is this true? I've always thought and heard they were better all around?

From my standpoint, here's my $.02...

Equal lengths: Royal pain. I installed a set of Mac's on my car a few years ago when I did a H/C/I swap and these were just what I purchased. The individual flanges (NEVER buy a set of headers with individual flanges -- I don't care what brand!) took a LONG time to get all lined up. Not to mention the fact that there was little to no room to move around in the engine compartment after the install.

Shorties: I bought a set of BBK's for use on my new motor (will upgrade to LT's eventually, but didn't want to wait/spend for an entire new exhaust when I was already doing the motor). The one-piece flange is very nice, and made the install a breeze. However, there was one part about the BBK's that I didn't like... And, that was the fact that I had to take a Dremel to the inside of the port at the heads. There was quite a bit of flashing from the welds, and it would've seriously made a performance hit if I didn't clean it out.

Other than that, the BBK's have been great and have actually maintained their chrome finish fairly well in a year and a half of daily driving.

The BBK's were they equal or un equal?
