I wonder if they are really planning on a $50K model at launch or near. I knew that a top of the line model was going to be closer to $50K than $40K. Like I've said all along, if it can't be in the 30's, than just put it way out of my price range so I don't even have to ponder the thought. Looks like a loaded vert or a mid priced special edition is in my future.

No, you will NOT see a $50K model at launch year. It will not come until 2006 or 2007.

The $20K V6 also confirms my suspicions. The # $18K keeps getting thrown around, but since a 04 V6 stripper goes for $18.7K (sticker) there is no way in the world the 05 will start at $18K. I say that an 05 V6 stripper will probably sticker for $18,995 before delivery charge so in reality with delivery it will be $19.6K sticker.

No there won't likely be a $50k variant at launch. We would have seen it by now. But there have been people saying it may come out in mid 05 but called an 06. Kinda like the 03 Cobra. As far as the V6 starting at $20k. Well that's not quite a correct quote from the article.

A big part of Thai-Tang's job is to make the Mustang's driving experience as inviting as the window sticker: Prices range from below $20,000 for a V6-powered version up to the mid-$50,000 range for a limited-edition, power-packed 'Stang.

In, I believe, C & D Ford stated the next generation Cobra would use the current M3 and C5 and 6 vettes as a bench mark for performance and power. They also said that those cars are it's competition now. I could def. see the next Cobra climbing towards 50K which is those cars price range. Consider the current cobra drop-top loaded is into the 40's.... and the next Cobra is to have 500+ hp.....it's not too hard to believe.

So what you are trying to say is... the new COBRA will handle better than a M3 and outperform a C5/6?

I kinda thought we had that already with the 03/04 Cobra.

$50K for a MUSTANG that shares a base V6 interior and overall dynamics...

NO THANK YOU.

Just under $40k is OK. $50k is just plain nuts.

I don't understand you logic. No one seems to have a problem with a $60K M3, which is nothing more than a souped up 3 series that starts under $30K a $30K differential.

But when you make a $50K Mustang out of a $20K base model, also a $30K difference, everyone seems to get upset.

So you're telling us that the last Cobra-R shound never have been made because it cost too much?

The last COBRA R was good, but it was a VERY unique car as it had a UNIQUE one off engine, plus they ONLY made 300... and other items that were NOT available to be mass produced.

Its a big jump from $18,000 V6 to a $50k V8...

Its not so bad when a 325, which starts at $28k-$31k(coupe) and the M3 is $43k-$47k(coupe).

Its only ~$15k difference.. which I can personally say is reasonable.

A $50K Mustang better have 5valves per cylinder and one hell of a HP/Performance level.

If your average 22 year old rich kid can turn his $25,000 GT into a BMW and Vette eater for a mere $15,000, what do you think Ford could do with an extra $25,000. I think the next Cobra R, or Shelby, or whatever they call it, could definately compete, or destroy, anything that GM could mass produce. Think of the potential.... they have the 500+hp technology (Ford GT and Lightning), they have IRS technology even on their SUV's, and now they have the best chassis ever put under a Mustang.
Ford has already proven they can build a super car that out performs any exotic for a fraction of the cost. I think they have the potential to dominate the sports car market with the new Stang. Let's just pray the right engineers get picked to work on it.

I agree completely LAWMAN, they have potential...

But for the same amount of money(within +/- $8k), I would rather drive a C6 with a LS6 engine in it.

Much more exclusivity than a "MUSTANG".(to the unknown average crowd)

And im right there with ya, I pray they have the RIGHT engineers as well.

I want the MUSTANG name to SHINE and people to say "OWWW AND AWWW".. and drop their jaw, but thats going to take A LOT of EFFORT on FORDs part.
