To anyone that has a 87-93 fox hatchback.....i need some pics of your back seat.....in the up-right......and folded down if possible. i have a 87 coupe and i don't like the fact that i can't fold my back seat down. so i'm wanting to bolt in a hatch back seat. i know it's not going to bolt right in and look factory...but i need to see some pics so i can tell if it's possible for me to do it. thanks to everyone that helps me.

Wrong.

No, not even close. They don't mount nearly the same at all. The hatchback seats will not work in a coupe.

what? my brother had a 91 coupe when i had my 92 hatch, one time we took out his rear seat cause he was installing a lowjack under it, it looked damn near the same to me.

Yeah, the rear seat cushion will work, but the seats backs will not.

For one thing, the coupe seat back is 1 peice. The hatch seats are 2 separate peices and they are not as tall as the coupe seatback. EVen if you could bolt them in, the tops would not reach the rear deck.

You would be better off trying to make a 94-04 rear seat work. The seatbacks are 2-peice and fold down. Not sure how they mount, but the general shape of the rear area is similar to a notch rear seat. I bet you will still have to custom fab, but it's a better starting point than a hatch rear seat

Here's a pic of an '02 rear coupe seat

This is the closest pic to anything i have that will show the rear hatchback seat

Here are some pics of my rear seat when i installed 2002 seats in my hatch. I used the 2002 leather and padding, but all the mechanical parts and the base are the original 87 parts. Maybe this will give you some help. But I know the hatch seats are a bit narrower than the coupe ones, so you will have a couple of inches on each side to cover. Plus you will have to somehow mount the center pivot point for the seat backs.... probably weld something together? But doesn't the coupe have some reinforcements across the seatback? You would have to remove them in order to really use the fold down space. The "flap" in picture 7 is what latches to the latch on the seatback and holds it in place. It also folds down flat and gives you the flat load floor from the tail lights to the front seats. However, it would be a problem to release the latches, since they would be behind the seat and under the rear parcel shelf... only accessible from inside the trunk! You might be able to put some kind of extension on it with a pull strap like the SN95 cars have so you can pull it from the inside. Or just install SN95 rear seats with their integral bracket!

Sn 95 rear seat bracket and seat backs:

edit: After reading Mike's comments... yes they would be shorter too. The SN95 comes with a one piece headrest that fits on top of the seats from one side of the car to the other. It could probably be modified to work with the SN95 seats in a coupe and fill the area on top of the setbacks to the top of the rear shelf.

Good luck!

thanks a bunch for the pics. i wanted to "re-do" my rear panels anyways.....it'd be cool to have the hatch seats and the have the rear panels molded to each side of the seat. probably what i'm going to do. does anyone have a pic of the rear side panel where the side of the seat sits???? on either fox body or the sn95. thanks again.
