Ok, im in the search for afrs. i have some questions and i know you guys got them. let me start (some may be stupid questions but cut me some slack :D )

What is the difference in pedestal and stud mount?? Actually, what the hell do they really mean? Im under the impression that has something to do with the roller rockers. I want the AFR 165s bc im gonna just have a street car, so which ones do i get? there are:
1. 165cc Street Heads, stud, 55cc
2. 165cc Street Heads, Pedestal, 60cc
3. 165cc Street Heads, stud, 61cc

I never heard of a 55cc afr165, i think you mean 58cc which is the one you want.. would put you right at ~9.5:1 C/R.

Anyways, dont get ped mount.. Stud mount is the way to go. On a stud mount head the rockers mount on a "stud", there is NO shims or anything needed like PED mount heads. Its very easy to settup the valvetrain on stud mount heads.

whoops, i mustve hit the 5 instead of the 8 on the side number pad. would you recommend the 1.6 or 1.7 rockers with them?? also, which valve covers do i need to clear them?

Rockers depend completely on the cam design. Are you going with an FTI custom? IF so you will want the 1.6 rockers.

VC's are a tough issue, i use a set of fms EFI valve covers and they clear great and look awesome too. Most people use the FOX body VC's without issues. I would look into the fox vc's if your into saving money. Someone had a set of nice polished ones on ebay a couple weeks back..

I LOVE my 58cc AFR 165 stud mounts! (Thanks Jesse!!) What a difference from the ported E7's...wow!

I'd recommend the valve spring upgrade and the seal upgrade, but you probably don't need to do the 7/16" stud upgrade unless you plan to get real serious (i.e. boost or really high RPM's).

I disagree. Springs do, but you can use any rocker ratio you want as long as you've got adequate piston to valve clearance and enough room under your valve covers. A different rocker ratio may require a different pushrod length to maintain the correct geometry.

I'd go for the 58cc with stud mounts.

Of course the rockers depend on cam design. You said it yourself, if you have adequate P/V then you can use a high ratio rocker, so yes it does depend on the cam lol. Most cams are designed with a 1.6 rocker in mind, and if he gets a custom ground, ed will tell him to get 1.6's since he has a much broader cam design to choose from.

I was just trying to let him know that even though the specs for SBF cams are generally given for 1.6 rockers, this doesn't mean he's limited to 1.6 rockers. If you can fit 1.7s, it's just more lift. More lift = more air = more TQ/HP.

17yrOldStanger .......... if your looking for a set of Fox valve covers then I have a set. Been glass bead blasted and painted. I bought them off here from RIO5.0 but they wouldent fit on my b/c of clearence issues w/ the Paxton S/C bracket, as it was I had to grind down the corner of the stock valve cover. Heres a pic, let me know or anyone else for that matter......

Those look nice, Striped. I wish you or RIO would have had those for sale when I needed a set to clear my Scorpion rockers several months back...

Yeah they really are a nice set of valve covers, been on Ebay 3 times and havent sold yet. Id love to use them but they just wont fit w/ the Paxton Bracket.

damn man, as much as i want those, my boss gave me a set. those look 100 times better, but when faced with either freebie or pay-a-free, freedbie all the way. thanks for putting that up though. now i know what to make mine look like

Am i the first on on here to use AFR 185s on a 302? I like being different :D If I were you I'd get the 58cc, stud mount 165s. You won't be sorry especially if you get an Ed Curtis cam. U sed fox VCs on my AFRs. I had to use 2 3/8" spacers on my intake to clear them but I was already planning on using the spacers. I don't have an Ed cam but my car seems to be making a ton of power, but I haven't pushed it hard yet and I'm also fighting a used Mac longtube header problem right now. I should have gotten a set of BBK longtubes...oh well. I'll beok I guess.
