I just came across this thread: http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=5965

Is it true you have to remove *both* wheels and a pedal to put a bicycle in this car??? I'm a competitive cyclist and transport a bike daily for rides. On my WRX, I have a roof rack--yes, on a car this ugly, a roof rack actually improves the look! :rlaugh:

My plan, since there are folding rear seats, was to remove the front wheel and just toss the bike in the trunk/back seat area. Seeing the pictures of the '05 trunk with seats down, it doesn't seem like an issue. Is this correct?

What are other options? I don't want a roof rack on this car. Can you put a hitch on it, for use with a hitch-mount rack?

Now the scales may be tipping back towards the STi... :(

I can't imagine fitting a mountain bike in my '03, let alone an '05 which supposedly has a lower fold down height. There just doesn't seem to be enough room. I wouldn't even try anyway. I don't really have any requirements for trunk or back seat space. Anything i need to carry with me sits in the passenger sear, or the center console. Anything bigger, i borrow my parents truck.

I own an 05 Mustang GT with a rear spoiler and looked into this awhile ago. When I called Yakima they said due to the angle the trunk lid sheet metal isn't strong enough. Their solution was to put a roof rack on (ha, yeah right). I can't remember what thule said but I don't think it was positive. So I guess the solution for me is to switch to a ducktail spoiler (looks better anyway). I have a 19" mountain bike that will fit in the trunk if you take off the wheels. It's a little tight but I'm sure if you took off the pedals it would fit better. I'd like to hear other peoples solution although I think putting a trailer hitch on would be a crime.

My Mtn Bike fits, but I take both wheels off, fold down the seats,, slide in the frame and components, then place the wheels on top. Not a big deal, unless the bike is muddy.

Unless you do a light duty custom receiver, that will allow the stinger to plug in behind the license plate.
I'm part way done on the design,, few more hours, and the build will begin :D

Both Hidden Hitch (part number 60809) and Draw Tite (part number 24747) make a hitch for the new Mustang. Look at etrailer.com for the prices.

Yes, but both of those place the receiver below the rear valance. And are visible when not in use. :notnice:
