tranny swap $?????????

how much would it cost to swap a stock 2001 gt automatic tranny for a quality 5 or 6 speed? also what tranny would u recommend? what all do i need? clutch, tranny ,flywheel........... what else?

you can put a tremac t-56 in it. you'd need (at least) the tranny, flywheel, clutch, and driveshaft.

the only snag i can think of is the crankshaft. the cobra uses an 8-bolt crank where the gt uses a 6-bolt crank. i don't know if your gt flywheel can be adapted for the t-56 or if they have one that you can use. that's a good question.

the t56 will run you about 3500 including labor if you get a used tranny

i did a 6k mile t45 for about 1000... but i got EVERYTHING i needed dirt cheap

Or would it be better for me to swap the stall converter to a higher RPM one, install a shift kit and a trans cooler?

I realise that what i just reccomended would be alot cheaper. what would the proformance gains be with the converter/cooler/shift kit combo?

Less hassle than a manual swap but it won't feel like a manual. I don't know about times but it's worth it if you race. I did the shift kit and cooler on my own feels a little better but I'm not going to sink more money into an auto. If you plan to keep the auto, go with at least the cooler and shift kit. If you have money and time go with a manual swap.

do they sell manual valvebodys for the new autos? if they do you can always do that instead of a shift kit

A built auto (skift kit, stall convertor, ect) can be just as fast as a stick. It's also more consistent.

I am swapping mine from manual to auto, however I had my t-45 from 2000 GT rebuilt form front to back drove it less than a 100 miles and it stuck in reverse. Granted it will be nothing to get it fixed if u decide u want this stuff u need to know in advance. I also have the complete spec stage 1 clutch and flywheel. Its the 11" clutch to for 99-03 cobra with matching flywheel. on top of that I have the complete adjustable clutch kit from steeda, including the double hook quadrant, adjustable clutch able and firewall adjuster. Pedals and the manual tranny harness for the swap. If ur interested just let me know it will be coming out in the next 2 weeks
