Life is not fair

 Well I finally found insurance for my 91 2.3n/a ($305 CDN/month). I got a 10 day permit and was so happy to be back on the road when all of a sudden BANG! I was cruising down main street and my car started tapping so loud I couldn't hear myself curse. So I'm in the midst of pulling the engine...I phoned the junkyards and they want $500 CDN for a 2.3 with 144000kms I laughed and hung up the phone. I priced complete rebuild kit (bearings, rods, piston, crankshaft, rings, camshaft, and all the gaskets,) $625 CDN plus tax. I have an engine crane, engine stand, torque wrenches etc. Now here's the problem I'm 19 and I've read 10 different books on engine rebuilding I'm pretty sure I can do this but I wanted to know if anyone had any tips/pointers. I've almost got the engine out. The motor has 311000 on it so I know other things probably need changing.

p.s. I'm getting a shop to hone the engine but should I bore it .01" over because of the high milage? or will replacing it with stock pistons be ok?

Thank you for any help,

One unluckly son-of-a-*****

NOOOOO dont put another 2.3 N/A motor in, find a 2.3T motor, (turbocoupe, merkur xr4ti) computer and air meter, switch a few wires, and drive a 200+ hp stang instead of the 88hp beast you currently have. If you are going through all the trouble already why not improve it?

Dr.

Trust me when I say I'd love to do the turbo conversion but first I cant find any car within 100 km radius with a turbo motor and I have been searching for 2 years. Second it's christmas and my funds are running really low. 200+hp will have to wait.

if you where in texas id sell you one alot cheeper.
too bad about your situation. ive been waiting to do my 2.3t swap for several years and its now coming together.
im even gona have the little toggle switch for hi and low octane :D
ive got 3 n/a 2.3s in my gerage

If you go turbo, deffinatly join Turboford.org and post in the offtopic area. I know there are a few canadian guys that would help you out alot (and could be local if i remember right).

at least ask these guys... they can probably find the turbo engine u need even if u cannot... perhaps the reason u cant find one for 2 years is these guys beat u to it... it never hurts to ask...

cheers,
eric.
