No sir, not really...

I don't know - but it's pretty easy to check. Fire it up and hold a paper towel in your hand behind it - if it's pulling air across the rad you'll see it blow the towel. If it tries to suck the towel into the fan from the engine side, it's blowing air out the front.

I checked it and it sucked the towel into it, which per your statement tells me that it is acting as a pusher right now and I must have something wired wrong. I guess I didn't realize that these would work with the polarity reversed... This should explain why the car isn't cooling well....Thanks for the help Mike.. :nice:

Well, that solved the problem!!! I'm embarrassed to say, but I have been chasing this problem for quite sometime... The used to get up to 220-230 in a very short time (especially in the summer) driving easy. I drove the crap out of it earlier (about 75-80* out) and it wouldn't ever get above 190*. Made my New Year's!!! :D

By the way - that's how things are supposed to work. Knowing it's supposed to be a puller, and knowing it was blowing air the wrong should have been what told you (sounds like it did) that you had it wired incorrectly.
Oh, it told me alright.... I just figured that it was spinning the right way... Things we take for granted...

"Things we take for granted"

Unrelated to the fan -- I just found and obtained a very rare (never seen another one) Volvo R Sport steering wheel for my car. It's in pretty good shape, and has the hub and all mounting hardware. It's a 4 spoke, big fat leather rim wheel probably made by someone like Momo for Volvo dealers to install as an option. I take my turbo-wheel off, and mount this one. Horn works - I think woo-hoo I got a steal on this (it was free)!!! I drive the car, and the left turn signal won't cancel. The right one will, but the left one won't. Get to investigating - the numbnuts who installed it on the other car had mounted the wheel to the hub in the wrong way - the turn signal cancel device wasn't positioned properly with the turn signal. Probably for 20 years that car was driving around having to manually cancel the lever for right hand turns, and no one ever did anything about it. Things we take for granted. I simply re-positioned the wheel on the hub - remounted the hub properly and it works like a champ.

By the way - the ONLY way to control that big MkViii is with one of these ---- www.dccontrol.com. Really a great device - I have one on mine; controls to within 3F degrees of the set point, and minimizes current draw and wear and tear on the battery, alternator and fan. HIGHLY recommended. Don't even think about relays and switches with the big MkViii.

nice work on the wheel, Michael. :nice:
hey, the price was right.

BTW, if you werent so helpful, i coulda' scored a cheap Mk 8 fan from 1fast89 (cheap cuz it flowed the wrong way). :) (J/K, 1Fast - you knew it was not right and asked - good man). :)

:p No, I knew the fan was plenty to cool it.... I started discussing it with the wife and she reminded me that night when I installed it she had rushed me so we could go out and all I did was turn it on and saw that it worked and then I went and got ready to go with her... My fault for not checking it the next morning... Instead I started on working on something else on the car... Should've double checked the direction of airflow...
