TSBs for 2001 Cobra?

Anyone know if a TSB was ever issued for the pinging problem on '01 Cobras? This issues seems to be getting worse on my snake (maybe due to the increasingly warm weather). I use the max available octane in CA (91) and have tried higher octane additives. Nothing helps. I only hear the ping under load during full throttle or high rpms. Just cruising it seems fine.

And as an afterthought, would a TSB still be honored even though my warranty has expired?

I've done some searching - many have mentioned the ping as a common problem for the '01s but I have yet to find a solution. I'm hoping no engine damage is being done.

Thanks for the help. :nice:

uh, thanks....however, I don't see my issue addressed so that doesn't really do much for me. Anyone with the pinging issue ever get it resolved?

Do you think I have anything to worry about with light pinging or should I just accept it as a fault of certain '01s?

I seem to have the same problem with 92 octane here in wa. state :flag: and the same conditions that you have said.I have put in 94 octane that you can get in canada :canada: and wow what a differance, smoother idle crisp resonse etc. and NO pinging!!!! now on the other hand it is $1.05 canadian a liter so that equals out to just under $4.00 us a gallon.also I have been beating the living crap out of my 01 cobra for the last 30,000 miles and the engine is still as sound as it ever was it has 50,000 on it now

well that's somewhat comforting - mine's only got 23K miles on it and I don't really beat on her. hopefully the 32V has a long life ahead of it.
for the hell of it, maybe I'll mention it at my next service and see what they say. thanks!

Your car would run like a dream if you could just get some good gas in her, which in CA, well, I'm afraid you just can't. These cars really need 93, and the 91 in Cali, well, isn't even good 91. I don't think its causing any harm though, just sounds like crap. My advice is sell your car to someone in a different state, where she can get the juice she needs.

I don't believe there ever was an "official" TSB offered from Ford or SVT regarding the ping. However, of the handful of '01s that pinged, I remember a few people saying they were able to have their PCM/computer reflashed at the dealership.

You can also try running one (or two) heat range colder sparkplugs. I'm running Motorcraft AWSF-22C's. Other than that, there's not much else you can really do since you are limited to 91 octane out there in CA. Try changing the plugs first & go from there...

My .02

Mine does ping sometimes.

I thought about ordering a timing adjuster and takeing 1-2 degrees retard.
Copper plugs did help also.

Raining like crazy so the Cobra has been parked for WEEKS!!!!!!!!:(

We have 94 octane at Cenex stations.
