Civic vs. 88 N/A

I lost to a 91 Prelude Si when I had my N/A 4 banger, both of ours were 5 speed and he beat me by about a car. All I had done to my car was a k&n filter & straight pipe dual exhaust, but now I've upgraded to a 2000 V6 :nice:

No, his engine isn't Si. But what about the Prelude?....this guy was pushing it to it's limit, honestly....I took him my two cars to 45 and he hadn't even began to gain on me by that point...and my transmission slips. Well, I am still determined to make my little N/A quick....maybe not fast...but at least faster than any other N/A. Everyone tells me that it's a fruitless endeavor but that only makes me want to try more.

Anyone know how strapping an intercooler and a turbo onto the N/A motor would do? just a thought... maybe 6 lbs at most.

Anyway, I've raced neons and smoked them. I've raced some V8 astrovans...smoked them. I've raced a Jeep wrangler....took him too. I raced a g35.....not a pretty sight for the 2.3, but I knew what the outcome of that was going to be. I honestly dont believe a tow truck could beat me. But maybe I'm wrong. I think you guys are too negative on the N/A's because the turbo's are so much quicker. but again, maybe I'm wrong.

I plan on getting some machine work done on my engine in the near future, porting, polishing, shaving, and boring. I can get it done for free....so it won't be a waste. Any idea what that will do to the N/A motor? How about a better fuel pump and injectors? I just find it hard to believe that the N/A is hopeless. I'm really looking for ideas. Serious weight reduction? I'm determined.... put me down if you like, but I want to try.

If anything, I'll smoke metros, esteems, tercels, and neons for the rest of my days...

Add 19lb injectors out of a 5.0 and a fuel regulator and you should be fine for about 6-9.5 lbs of boost. the stock wastegates are set at 9.5 I believe. Make sure it is intercooled. You really should swap the pistons and rods but you should be fine if you don't get stupid in it.

So, you get machine work done for free, your willing to tear into a motor, spend aweful amounts of time and effort on it and for less than 1/10th the return in hp (time, effort, money) than a turbo motor?

Sure, people will laugh at you, not for lack of effort, but your trying to dig to china with a spoon.

Yeah I guess....but I honestly don't mind spending time on the car....for the sake of education. Yeah, a turbo swap is considerable....it's actually very considerable....but we'll see what happens in the future.

heres the set-up:

97 Honda Civic 1.6 VTEC (4 door)
mods: Cold Air Intake, Mugen 4-2-1 header, 2 1/4 inch straight pipe, ricer fart can "muffler", 7 mm wires and +1 plat plugs

88 Mustang 2.3 N/A
mods: Cold air intake, long tube header, 2 1/2 inch exhaust (no cats), flowmaster muffler, 8 mm wires +4 plat plugs
Honestly....who do you think would win in 1/4 mile....and don't just say the stang just because this is stangnet. I'm honestly not sure because I've driven the civic and its quick but a couple of people swear that the mustang(mine but not with all of those mods yet) would take the civic. you are the guys who know 2.3's so let me know what you think.

There is a guy in a local town who has a stock as hell looking 87-93 4cyl stang (N/A) with little civic kill stickers all over his door. Funny as hell! Go kick his ass!!!! :flag:

I don't get it guys. Mines not a rocket but it's not as slow as you guys are talking. Even like it is now it's put down a few v-6 competetors, and one really crappy v-8. But I've blown the doors off several civics and other such cars, what gives? I'm geared kind of low I guess...
