Is my TPS sensor gone bad?

I just did the entire ignition on the car minus the distributor. Cap and rotor and everything else is new. Now when i turn the car on the revs surge and when i take off while the car is still cold the car sort of jerks because it seems like power is going on and off. I know when the car starts up the computer runs generic codes to check all the sensors and i think it might be the TPS. Could be the O2, but i'm pretty sure its the TPS since they are known for going out at around the 100K mile mark. Anyone experience this to confirm it? I really dont wanna pay $50 for a diagnostic.

Nope. When i redid the ignition the coil and cap and rotor were all corroded, spark plugs were shot, and spark plug wires were swollen and ashy. So all that stuff is now brand new. Thats not the problem i know its not; just a coincidence i guess.

back probe the TPS and see what your voltage is at idle, and WOT. Turn key to acc mode but don't start it, that will get voltage to the TPS and you can test it.

.9 or so at idle, and 4.66 or so at WOT.

most often when TPS's go, they get a dead spot. If you do the test Scott mentioned, look for a dead spot. Otherwise, I would look elsewhere. A VOM works best for this sort of testing.

Good luck.
