04 Saleen vs. 04 Cobra

I would agrue that the Saleen is not very 'stock'. The 04 cobra is stock. For the price difference, but a 04 and put 10K into it. Then you can match two 'modified' cars against each other.

depends...the S281 SC....Cobra wins.

The S281 E....Cobra loses.

the S281SC is "quicker", (GT) solid rear & blower with about the same boost, better suspension setup. stock vs stock the Saleen 281SC (GT) is a 1/2 sec quicker in the 1/4, look it up, but for 9 to 11K more money, it should be, but you have to drive around with the "ricer" wings and lettering, I went with the cobra, put about 6-7K into my 04 and now I'm 1 sec quicker than the Saleen, with IRS and a 6 speed.

the cobra is for guys that want to mod and GO, the Saleen are for guys that want to drive to SHOWs (no offense meant). both have their place, but I like to GO!

I will disagree with you. First off, I think he is referring to the 04's, not the 05's. If you are talking about them, you are right on with the 05's.

The 04's were rated at 375 (SC) and 450-475 (E).

The 05's are 400 (SC) and 500 (E)

The 03-04 cobras are more along the lines of 420-425 in stock trim. (avg of 360 rwhp at 17% driveline loss) But they are heavier.

MM&FF just tested an 05 S281 SC and it ran at about 12.50@110. They only have 3.5 psi.

I also saw a test on the 99-04 SC. On slicks the best I saw was a 12.70@110. Remember that Saleen has exhaust and tuning....

On street tires, you usually see them running 13.0-13.5's @ 106-108ish...03-04 Cobras run 12.8-13.1's @ 109-111ish.

I have seen stock 03-04's run in the 12.50's @ 113-114 and the vert's running 12.70's @ 111.

So I still stick by my original statement...

The E is a different story...

BTW...what mods do you have and what rwhp #'s???

don't have time to look it up and I'm probably wrong but when shopping for my 04 cobra the factory specs from both the manufactors were along the lines I stated -.4 sec for the Saleen. The Saleen has a solid rear and a lower gear, so the 375 vs 390 is a wash. I drove 2 281SC's and the cobra I bought, with the tires and wheels that were on them stock, I could launch the Saleens easier and they felt quicker than the cobra and easier to shift but that my take on it? have you driven both or just researching mag articles?

Both, I was actually in the same boat as you are in. I was actually looking at a 03 S281 SC....Then I drove my dad's friend's S281E.

since the E was more than I wanted to pay and I love the 32V, I decided to get my cobra because I felt like the Cobra pulled harder....plus the mods are easier to do and perform better on the Cobra.

I agree. The 281 is much easier to launch. I think it is due to the solid rear. The IRS is the only thing I hate about the Cobra.
