No offense Joe....but just save up and buy that aftercooler. Its best to be safe rather than sorry. I mean its only 1500 bucks.. You just spent that much on a tv screen.

lol and the tv screen is now up for sale to pay a ticket that i just got.. its neverending.... I need a jobbbb..... i mean the methanol is only 180 bucks... couldnt it be something i can tryyy before i ever saved 1500 for an aftercooler?? it beats driving around how it is now.. I dunno what do you think?

Trying any type of injection whether is be water, methanol, nitrous, whatever, in this situation is just plain old stupid.

It's a bandaid on a bullet wound.
What happens when the liquids run out?
Your car is a DD, you don't need more hassle than you already have.

As someone said above, it very well could be the chip, i've seen many problems that result from a chip.

The aftercooler could work, but it is 1500+ by the time it's done. And i think the vortech kit comes with an undersized heat exhanger.

My advice is ditch the chip, and get it tuned right. You said it yourself Joe, you see plenty of others with similar combos not having these issues.

DID EVERYBODY IGNORE ME ???? USE STRAIGHT WATER , IT WONT AFFECT THE TUNE AND WILL COOL IT DOWN CONSIDERABLY , not as good as the methanol and water mix but good enough to help it alot ........the base kit is $299 from summit , why not try it , you can always sell it for 200 or so if it doesn't suit your needs .........

i don't know what i was thinking but ya you will need a retune no metter what. there are some guys on turbomustangs.com running the water/meth. and it is not the end of the world to refill it. i mean look at the nitrous guys they have to pay to refill too but is it worht it? HELL YA. you can actually use windsheild washer fluid with it too, and they say it will last about 500 miles on a mustang system www.snowperformance.net

now your other option is right here, now granted this is gonna take some fabrication, i don't know how good you are with fabrication but you could build your own piping and keep everthing under $250

Look, the injection setups may work, but it's not the right solution for this problem.

His car is a DD, not a race car. He doesn't want more power, he just doesn't want to blow the thing up.

Joe you said it right there.... sooo even if the methanol/water robs some power (which isnt a problem for me.. 513 is dangerzone anyways), wouldnt it efficiently cool the charge down to where it doesnt detonate????? I can rip on the car for awhile.. its just when the blower gets real hott, that i have to worry....

Methanol is perfect if you dont want to blow it up, think of it as running race gas all the time. On the tune he has right now, it's probably fine on the dyno after a couple pulls, sounds like when he beats on it over and over on the street it gets hot and starts to detonate. He could do a super mega pansy tune but even that might not work if he is really beating on it. For his driving style, to make the power he wants, he needs some sort of intercooler and the methanol setups work great because they also add alot of octane.

It wont matter anyway, over 500 on the stock block is gonna split but if it keeps detonating on him, it's gonna split ASAP.

The methanol setups are for daily drivers, you have to put gas in the car right? Well thats something you monitor, just like methanol. It lasts awhile on the local cars, just keep an eye on the level. It's not that expensive to use compared to running race gas!

yes they are for daily drivers, that is the primary reason that guys like to use it, they can run nice timing and still have the higher boost. plus alot of the kits are RPM activated so if your not in boost the water doesn't come on. i think it says the kit should be setup to come on at half the boost you plan to make on gas motors

im thinking about the AFM mr freeze kit....http://www.andersonfordmotorsport.com/mr-freeze.html

My friend recently grenaded a headgasket because his Snow kit didnt activate... No it wasnt a faulty install.. it was dynoed deveral times for the methanol..... the mr freeze kit has no pump to blow and is just boost activated

One final question.. if i chose not to get it retuned, supposibally ill lose a bit of power... in my sense, isnt that what i want??? anything that can get me back in the mid-high 400 mark...

Weird about the Snow Kit, then again there are lots of other kits that are really good, like the Alky Control Kit from Razor and the SMC Kit.

I would go with what your tuner sugested about the ACT. Its a cheap swap, and the extra info and control your tuner will have will pay off. As for metanol injection it would be a good idea for track use, but like some one else posted if somthing fails with it or it runs dry bad things are going to happen to your motor before you realize what happened. Also ive read that the methanol systems end up costing more to tune than the kit costs even if you have a tuner who is familiar with them

You people are telling him to get an injection kit to FIX his DETONATION problem! That's just plain stupid. FIX the problem FIRST... then if you want more power... inject it! Any of these manufactures will tell you these kits are NOT for fixing a detonation problem. They are to allow you to run less fuel and more timing to make MORE power.
