Anyone have any or know of any pics of the stock h-pipe on a 96gt (assuming 96-98 are same). It's supposed to have 6 cats, correct? Mine has 4 unless two of them are heat exchangers..?

Just wondering what the hell my car is running..

i think all stock h-pipes have 4 cats, with the exception of the ones that were delivered to cali. CA smog laws require 6 cats. there are no resonators on them.

thats why i took the one off my 98 it had 6 cats, car didnt know how to act with the off-road x pipe,we here in missouri only have obd inspections with mils its a breeze, car stunk like fuel while the girl was scanning it.

How's your car run now? Did you have to get it tuned after the O/R X-pipe?

i havent finished adding parts yet so im holding off on the tune and just bought a diablo to hold me over,it runs alot better but a light rasp is noticed during takeoff,if i do it again i would get a pipe with high flow cats but one with only 2 of them,my other half says it smells a little in the drivethrough,6 cats is retarded to put on a car it chokes them,in my opinion get a x pipe with 2 high flows and you will like it alot.

Cool Thanks!! Thats good to know:nice: Did you notice much difference in performance after the install?

Hmm.. According to those pics, I have somehting different. I have the 2 cats coming down at the bend (closest to engine) and the 2 after it. I don't have anything near the cross-pipe section..

Anyone know if the pics are from a cali car?

probably from a cali car being it has 6 cats. what year is your car? if its a mid-01 and up, theres a possibility ford moved the cats up higher due to clearance issues when they changed from t-45 tranny's ro t-3650's. i dont know for sure, thats just a guess. i have an 02 and my forward set of cats were higher as well.

it's a 96 gt.

If you look at this picture, I only have the 4 cats from the left. The ones farthest to the right are non-existant.

not true at all. my 98 GT is a "Federal" emissions car. meaning that it was not originally sold in CA and it has 6 cats. the 96-98 GTs had 6 cats. the first 2 are precats and the last 4 are the real cats. and yes it is a federal felony to remove catalytic converters on any car in any state.
