Those of you that removed your factory engine lift point brackets

I just put on a set of MAC Longtubes and didn't put those factory engine lift brackets back on. The engine is out and needs to go back in soon, but now I don't know where to grab the motor from to drop it back in. Those of you with out these brackets can you explain to me where to lift your motors from?

Thanks,
Tyler

You can also spend the $40.00 and buy a lift plate to bolt to your manifold. They make them for stock intakes, GT-40 style and I am sure you can find them for carb'd applications.

Two bolts opposite from each other will also work.

i used an engine leveler. works wonders rather than just a hoist mounted at a fixed point.

JerryD,
I assume by your picture that your lift hoist allowed you to install the engine and trans as an assembly. Did that make it any easier? I was thinking about buying one for an upcoming project if it'll save me me some time.

jc - you should AlWAYS install with as much of the assembly done as you can including tranny. Not only is it easier to work on them out of the car, the quality of the work performed is better when you can easily access things.

engine tilter, load leveler...ect cost about $40. that one is a A/C Delco one. bell housing bolts are a breeze if you do it while on the hoist as shown. no bench pressing the tranny and lining the splines up. no more of that for me i can help it.

jack the back of the car as high as you can, and drop it all in about 15 minutes or so. as long as it all goes smooth that is. yes most of the time is spent turning the handle. but it is worth it in the end. you don't have to lower the hoist, release the slack on the chain, re-adjust and lift again, hoping you counted the chain links right.

this was the way my buddy wanted to do it, untill i remembered i had the leveler.

here is a pic of me getting my buddies 351 ready to drop in. see bellhousing bolts are a cinch like that!

more pics, as you can see the only downfall is the handle is close to the hoist, and it makes it difficult to turn, we managed anyways.

ok...i've pulled my engine and my buddies in his 4.6 96 gt and i ahve to say the leveler is the only way to go. in his car though, dont even mess with trying to save the paint and put a 32v in...we tried for 3 days not to scratch before i just said screw it and man handled it into place. but this is the 5.0 post...lol. putting the tranny on with the engine is the easiest to do out of the car, and it is rather simple to install with the leveler, just watch the back of the tranny when you put it in / pull it so that you dont scrape or drop it in the rear. this is the best part about the fox cars....simplisity...hehe....long live the fox body!
