I would like to upgrade my ignition system. I am thinking of one of the electronic ignition converters and a new coil. There are a few companies that make them witch one do you guys recommend? I don’t think that the distributor for my 390 is not the original. It is a ford distributor c5af-c, what do I have? I also attached some pics.

Thank you

The brand that I like best is Pertronix. With your set up I would go with their Ignitor 2 and 50k Flame Thrower Coil. I just upgraded to pertronix's 45k coil today and it runs really great.

I've used both the Ignitor I & II, the II doesn't develop a miss after a "hiccup" backfire thru the carb, the "I" does, and you have to then kill the ignition to "reboot" the unit. I just replaced the "II" unit with a Crane Hyfire unit, too early to tell the difference here, other than it's a more complicated install ( it's a Chevy unit adapted to a Ford distributor)

i've got the unilite conversion in my car as well and other than a couple of popped modules before i got the system working right i haven't had a problem since. i installed it over 10 years ago so i think it's doing pretty well.

Ive been thinking about doing this myself, just wondering, what kind of gains could one expect form the pertronix/flame thrower system?
In terms of hp/tq gains ? Nothing that you could quantify as being huge. What you WILL notice is easier starting and fewer tuneups. I've found that plugs last longer, up to and over a year between tuneups. No more fiddling with your carb :D thinking it's out of tune because it's actually the points that have gotten out of whack.
