What do you Guys think of spec clutches? Anyone have one on here?
If i got one should i go stage 2 or stage 3? Stage 2 is good for 520 HP and stage 3 is good for 680 hp...

When my engine is back in and new AL heads are on and i get the beast all tuned, i should be pushing 500hp to the wheels....

My only fear with the stage 3 is how "jerky" is it? Is it hard to engage without grabbing alot?

Thanks guys

It's not always about how much the clutch is to. You have to look at the trans itself - especially in this case.

I have personally seen a SPEC III completely grenade a stock T5. It grabs so hard that it beat the transmission to death.

I'd go with a SPEC Stage II and deal with a little bit of slippage, if you get any at all....

have a spec3 and love it, just be sure to follow the directions on proper breakin and shouldn't have a problem.

it still chattered after break in but now has completey gone away!!!

have gone 1.63 60ft and yeah there is pretty much no slip at all it either off or on, you have to try to raise the launch rpm a bit and will slip better!!!

yeah than i would stick with the stg2 but i also drive mine on the street. they recommend the stg3 with H/c/i and nitrous so i went with that and i don't regret it. i know my clutch holds up good with the t-56!!! and spray!!

For the brief period of time i had my spec stage 2 in it felt like a really awesome clutch. I liked it a lot. Apparantley somewhere down the road before I installed it, the clutch got a small chip in it underneath the protective coating that I couldn't see. And pretty much scorched the pressure plate and caused a lot of vibrations. Good stuff! You might want to go ahead and get a SPEC flywheel that way it won't void the warranty by using a different flywheel. I lost a pretty good chunk of change. Plus they're lightweight!

my issue in deciding is i will have about 500 rwhp, be daily driven, and still have the stock t-5.

I know it will only be a matter of time before i explode the t-5, but i dont think the stage 2 will be up to the task:shrug:

They rate in torque instead of HP.

I have the stage 3 and love it.

I have an interview with them next week for sales position. Depending on the $$ I will be selling them, I will hook anyone up from here that I can if I get the job. Will keep updated.

I have the stage 3 with the billet steel flywheel and its fine after the break in period.

Whay do people with 500HP cars want soft clutches that arent grabby?. Just stop being a bitch and drive the car like you mean it! ;)

Tommy is completely right on the money with his words about SPEC. I'm glad I listened to you. I have a SPEC stage 1. Just be easy on it breaking it in and these things are awesome. I love mine. The oddest thing is that if i ever have to ride the clutch a lil on a hill at a light or anything it gives off a heavenly smell that ressembles a fruity berry smell. Kinda weird? Well anyway I love my SPEC.

i think the stage II would be ample for your setup with a T5

I've had both the new style and old style Stage III and like em alot. there's not a "large" window in where the clutch slips but i feel thats how a muscle car should be. it grabs like hell and as mentioned above they do chatter at first
