i'm about to change out the trans in my coupe and still unsure of what setup i'm gonna go with. was thinking about a tremec but right now dont have the money for a TKO2 setup and i'm a little unsure of buying anything used after the fate of my current trans. i'm considering a rebuild kit and having my trans guy go all thru my t5 replacing anything thats needed. What kinda horsepower could this trans handle? Any suggestions for a trans stronger than a factory t5 thats cheaper than a TKO2 setup? thanks guys

Trannies are generally rated for torque, not HP. It all comes down to how you drive (you could put 700 HP through one if you never gotup to more than 1.5 volts into TPS return-voltage.
Slicks and clutch selection also play into it a good bit.

More info about your car and how it's driven will help folks to provide advice. Good luck.

My buddy runs 11.8s at 119 with a bone stock untouched 140,000 mile t5. He has never power shifted which is probably why its still in good shape. We figure he has around 500hp at the crank

exactly for the most part it how you drive, but I'd rather go on the safe side, thats why I'm getting a TKO-600

thanks for the replies guys. this isnt my first stick car and i can drive okay. dont do alot of powershiftin on the street but the trans thats in the car now never really liked being powershifted anyway. I do drive the car kinda hard on the street and hasnt been to the track yet but got a king cobra clutch and M/T drag radials.

A little info on the car; 306, heavily ported twisted wedges, victor jr, custom grind cam w/about .560 lift, 650 holley w/proform center section. 4.10s, full suspension front and back. keep the advice comin. thanks again

LOL!!! Your combo is screaming for a TREMEC!! Seriously, I went through two new T5's and rebuilt my last one twice before coughing p the money for a tremec. Buy it once and be done with it.. You will save money in the end.. My first T5 after i converted from an auto lasted 3 years, my second lasted 8 months and then got rebuilt twice in less than a year.. Buy a good trany Once...
