so im sitting on the computer about 15 min ago, cruising stangnet at work, as usual, and i hear my lead tech call me into the other side of the shop, where he's working on a car. the trunk is slightly open and he says "dude, open the trunk." so i open the trunk and its FULL of black bags all marked with "police". two belts are sitting against the side of the trunk, both loaded with magazines, one had the gun still in the holster. next to the gun is a bullet proof vest and other assorted swat gear. in the back of the trunk was a huge binder marked Austin Police Department. we were stunned to say the least. who would leave all that in their car to get it serviced?

That was pretty dumb to leave that in the trunck, when ever I even go
in for an inspection sticker I make sure nothing of value, etc is in the car.

oh i agree, i never leave stuff of value in my car when i leave it somewhere.. but at the same time i never actually expect people to go digging through my car if their task does not require it

Tell me what kind of weapon it is, and i'll explain how to remove the firing pin, that'll teach him to leave firearms unsupervised!
Seriously though, you should consider calling the Austin PD and telling the SGT on duty that one of his officers left that gear in there....big no no

So is opening a locked container without the owners permission. I'm sure reporting this guy to his superiors is going to make you a really popular guy next time you get pulled over.

So what the hell were you doing looking in the trunk? Do you also look through a customers glove box too? :p

9-10 times the wheel lock key is in the trunk so I bet thats why the tech went in there. Plus if it's a crown vic he might have been checking for a air ride switch. some crown vics have air ride ( police cars typically don't but I check anyways on undercover cars)

a couple accessories-splash guards and wheel locks + oil change
I'm not a Ford tech, but I can't see where an oil change, installation of splash guards, or the addition of wheel locks would require entry into the trunk.

Then again what the hell do I know! :D

If you don't turn off the air ride on those equipped with such, when you raise the vehicle off the ground, the air bags will start to inflate. They will not stop either until you turn off the air ride or they explode. To put it this way - when I worked at a tire shop, a friend was telling me how he was on the other end of a Sam's club, opposite the tire center - he heard a loud boom - ran back to the department, the air bags had exploded on an old Lincoln Town Car and the tech working the car blew his ear drums. :nono:

wow, what a bunch of haters.:D
the tech opened the trunk so he could transport the parts being installed from the parts dept. to his bay in the shop. this is a common courtesy so nothing puntures, scratches, scrapes, mars or marks the interior of the car, i.e. leather seats etc. plus, the wheel lock is kept in the trunk in a special compartment in Acuras.

thank you Mike for coming to my aid.
