I wonder what the difference is in Power and if there is much of a difference. I have the Superchips Hand Held tuner, But was wondering how much of a difference it would make with my mods to get a dyno tune with the Xcalibrator? thanx

The Superchips 1725 handheld tuner gives a 14rwhp gain according to their dyno. I also have the Superchips 1725 tuner.

The Xcalibrator is custom and gains will depend on the aggressiveness of the tune, and the person's experience in developing a tune.

all programers are dependant on the tuning shop, check to see who your local mustangs go to for tuning, then buy the software that person uses to tune with.

Except for the Superchips handheld tuners since they cannot accept custom tunes. The only tunes you get are the ones that come pre-loaded with it. Superchips does have a new handheld tuner to challenge Diablosport with their "Flashpaq" unit.

If you are going to spend the money.....with your mods a custom tune will net you huge gains! I used the preditor with the Pro-M adjustable maf tuner and with dynoing I got 241 and 270 ft lbs. With a custom SCT dyno tune.....264rwhp and 304ftlbs TQ. The biggest factor is you can only mess with the Idle and High end output in both timing and A/F's with the hand held. They even resrticted those by +or- 10% so you wont hurt your car! The biggest gains are netted because a good SCT tuner will change the whole computer I.E. rebuild it for your set up. This will change timing and A/F's throughout every RPM increment. Netting HUGE gains! My car gained 25 peak HP and 35 peak TQ.....but that wasn't the impressive part......it gained 58 rwtq by 4100 rpms and 48 rwhp by 4100 rpms! Granted I have alot of bolt ons but on a slightly modded GT like yours you will notice a huge difference!

So the biggest gains come from a custom dyno tune, and not just ordering an SCT x-cal with pre-loaded tunes, correct?

If so, are there still decent gains seen from just ordering an X-cal without dyno tuning with it?

X-cal 2's ship blank and tunes are made by the dealer you purchase it from. I would think that without your car going on the dyno, the tuner might have to be a bit conservative on your tune to keep the air/fuel ratio at a safe point.

There's a tuner near my house called "Swanson's Performance." He has an in-house dyno that I see him use and tune with with gains of about 10rwhp over a pre-loaded mail-order tune.

This is no different than what Superchips does. It is still a canned tune.

Hey, I live in De too.. I have a guy you should talk to if you're looking at getting a custom tune. One of the best tuners in the country. He sells the xcal 2 and has tuned lots of cars including my Cobra. Does road tuning and lives right in PA, but he's travel if you need him to. I can't make any promises on his behalf, but I picked up quite a bit of power when he retuned my car, and I had a custom tune. The guys is simply the best. PM me and I'll get you his info.

A N/A setup can be tuned my mail pretty safely and for good gains most of the time, but its always best for your wallet and the car to get a dyno tune.

Yea So I would probobly see some noticable gains by doing this! I assumed that the tune on it is a mild one!

My tune probably is mild but I still feel the extra boost in acceleration. The drivability of the car has dramatically improved with the Superchips Performance Tune as well. My car shifts smoother, and takes a LONG ARSE TIME to shift into overdrive which is a good thing since I have an automatic transmission.

The SF Strategy Flash device from SCT seems like a wild tune since I hear some people using it feel a lot of power gain but also sometimes pinging on 91 octane fuel which is kinda weird and worrysome.

SCT is by far the way to go.

no problem :) have fun tuning. i saw SCT's new "Livewire" tuner device (advertisement) in the 5.0 magazine and I'm interested in that too. Too bad they don't have any information on their website just yet
