3.73 VS. 4.10 Gears

I have a 1999 Cobra 5 speed and I'm trying to figure out what type of gears I want to put in. The Cobra's redline is at 6800 rpm. My stock 3.27 gears are way to long..... I what to be able to drive my car on the freeway. So can you please tell the rpm for both going about 80 mph. Thanks and please add your input.

ppl always say for cobras the minimum is 4.10's

You will definately want the 4.10's! I don't drive 80 very often, but 70mph is about 2400 rpm in my GT. I still get about 21mpg too!

depends on if you supercharge or not. 3.73 gears are good for a supercharger and 4.10's are good for N/A path.

boils down to this IMO DD: 3:73's or if u dont mind motives 3:90's. If it's ur 2nd car then 4.10's. I know 11ty billion guys have 4.10's in thier dd, but i resold my 4.10s and bought 3.73's cuz a million reasons u can find using the search button.

I respectfully disagree, don't improve traction by using a lesser gear, that's kinda like saying, improve traction by reducing horsepower.

4.30's are great on a n/a 4v. thats what i used to run back when i had the stock motor and no juice.
as far as traction, a little suspension work is all that is needed. I get better traction now than i ever did when the car was stock and on stock suspension.

3.73's to a GT are like 4.10's to a cobra and 4.10's to a GT are like 4.30's to a cobra....

youll be turning about 2800 at 80mph but where in the hell do you run 80mph? i run 70 and get abotu 23-24mpg on the highway... get about 19 putting aroudn town.

70 is abotu 2400


DONT FEAR THE GEAR! btw this is my daily driver, only car... im 20 and drive it 15k miles a year... 4.10 will be fine.

Keep in mind the Cobra has almost an extra 1k to play with before it hits its rev limiter, and all its power is up top. It needs a steep gear.

Out of all the mustangs' i've owned i realized that 3.73 really aren't worth it unless your blown. On a N/A car go atleast 4.10. If you do the 3.73 you'll be wishing you stepped up to the 4.10. I know the feeling, "is the gear too much" The answer is NO! Do the 4.10's and you'll love them. Especially with your Cobra
