Ok, I dont know whats on the front of my timing chain?? looks like half a can and I have never seen this on my other 302s, This is an early 80s 5.0 if it would help but I dont know, I was changing the timming cover over to my 95 gt cover and this is what I saw.. Can I take it off?:shrug: Thnks guys..

oh thanks for the quick reply guys, I see how that works now, I just have never seen that on a motor before. I guess it isnt hurting anything, Any one know if it will have clearence issues with my 95 timming cover?
 
thats the oil slinger!!!!!

The oil slinger is a thin metal disc that deflects the oil away from the crankshaft seal. The oil that lubricates the timing chain is pumped toward the crankshaft seal at high pressure and very high volume.


You guys are so fast, So ....2 votes for fuel slapper, 1 for oil slinger.. How come my other 302s didnt have an Oil Slinger? If thats what it is?

Thanks JT, haven't been back very long. Just got back from a deploymet. I'll be creeping around in the background though.

It will indeed have clearance issues, as I have tried this before.
