I've held a pair in my hands

During the National show in Louisville a dealer had a set out. They looked good but I can't justify the $139 price. PCB (printed circuit board) and set of white LED's with a controller shouldn't be more than $60 to manufacture.
 
We've ordered a set from Mustang Plus. They screw into your current light socket and are easier to install than Scott Drakes. Pretty comparably priced to SD ones. I've have seen some higher. It might only cost $60? to manufacture, but a manufacture has to cover his overhead and make a few $

I have a set in my 68. They work fine. Mine came from Virginia Mustang. They come with a new flasher unit to work with the low current LEDs.

The Northwest Mustang site show several places that distribute them, but Virginia Mustangs Site seems to have the right info. (some sites show no picture or the wrong picture.)

As far as I can tell, the Scott Drake units have a row of 10mm LEDs for the brakes and two rows of 5mm LEDs on each side of 'em for the tail lights. They don't seem as effective as the 28 5mm LEDs in each section that the Northwest Mustang units offer. Plus the arrangement makes the sequential feature more visual.

I agree that the manufacturer has to make a few $. If they didn't, they wouldn't be in business. I ordered some bright LED's and put together some Light assemblies, so I know what it takes to design, test and build these things. I'm going to go with the proven, finished, manufactured and marketed item for this and am willing to pay the $.
 
I'd like to know something about the way they look once installed?

Do you see the small dots when on, or does it manage to "blend" and appear as a mass of Red light?
I really dislike the multiple-dot appearance of some LEDs...

I just installed the http://www.mustangproject.com/ LED tail light kit on my 67, and I'm very happy with the result. The kit you showed actually has quite a few more LED lights than the Mustang Project Kit at a competitive price.

As far as the look goes, even though there are less LED lights on the Mustang Project kit, it's still very bright. In the 67 tail light housing you don't really see the individual LED lights; the tail light lens disfuses the light fairly well. Also, the sequential turn signals work well.
 
I installed a Scott Drake kit this weekend, it replaced the Mustang Project kit I put in the car a couple of years ago. I really like the S/D kit, the M/P mounts in the bulb socket like from what other said does the Northwest kit. This proved to be a problem in my car.

Despite repeated "massaging" of the contacts in the socket and the plug connector in the taillight harness, the right side light would stop working from time to time. Nothing like getting pulled over for a taillight out and having the officer give me a hard time, no ticket just a lecture and about 20 minutes of sitting in my car with the spot lights glaring thru the back of the car.

The S/D unit fits between the lens gasket and the housing, and has three bundles of wires off the rear of the circuit board. You push the socket out of the housing, install the supplied rubber grommet and connect the wires up for either sequential or regular function. There is one ground wire and three each for the tail and brake lights LEDs. I didn't want sequential so I soldered the like colored wires together, the ground connects to a mounting screw and connectors are provided for the other two wires.

I should have taken a photo when I tested it, I had one side with the M/P unit and the S/D in the other, huge difference. The S/D lights made the M/P LEDs look like the original bulb, much, much brighter. You can pick out the individual LEDs, but this has become pretty common to see with all the new cars and trucks using them.

I think S/D's method of mounting for the big size circuit board is far better then the bulb mount. This kit did not include or make mention or having to use a different type of flasher. I left the M/P unit in place and they work fine. With all of the LEDs on these units I think the OE flasher would still work, otherwise they would make some mention or include a new flasher.
