Backspacing (talk to me dodgestang :)

I still have not made my decision between 16 or 17 inch Cobra R wheels on my 65 but after contemplating over dodgestangs wonderful chart for awhile I have a question about backspacing.

For example since my suspension is 100% stock and I decide to go with 17x8 late model mustang wheels I would ideally like to have 4.75 inches of backspacing

My question is what do most of the late model mustang wheels have for a backspacing? (95 or 2k Cobra-R, Bullits, etx.)

I am also seriously considering doing the shelby drop, there are really no negatives to doing this are there?

Thanks

IIRC the BS on those wheels is 6'' which means you would want a 1.25 inch adapter to fit them by bringing their specs to 4.75 for a 17x8 wheel, but don't take that as gospel, either measure the wheels yourself or validate the backspacing from a second source because the backspacing on late model wheels seems to change a lot from year to year.

Thanks for the info, ill be sure to ask before buying and i could probably check my buddies cobra because he has the same wheels I want on it, or even try em on once i get some spacers. Ive seen some pretty pricey wheel adaptors/spacers out there, whats a good price on a set of 4?

Would love to see pics of your buddies car with those wheels on!

I looked into these same wheels about two years ago and from what I remember, they didn't sell the 17" rims in 8" width in CHROME. They had 9.5" though. Are you looking to get aluminum or other in this size? I'm curious as those cobra rims are SWEET!:nice:

Sure, i diddnt mention that it is a 2000 cobra and he has the black chrome cobra r's that he uses for his drag tires, and regular chrome cobra r's for his street tires.

I can take some pics of the wheels and tires, 235/45R17 front & 255/45R17 rear, and some pics of the adaptors but everythings off the car right now for a T5 swap, some suspension upgrades, and the new Bullitts that I just bought 15 minutes ago!

Does this mean you want to sell me the cobra r's? :) are they chrome?

Hold a sec. You're telling me this thread is in regard to a late model??? I got excited that the Cobra R's in Chrome where made in a width to fit in a classic ('68), then you show me a picture of a white late model. I think I'm going to cry.

I am looking to put chrome cobra r's on my 65, they make cobra r wheels in 16x7 16x8 17x7 17x8, all of which will fit on our old mustangs. His front ones are 17x7 on that 2000.

As for pictures all I have seen is this mustang, which has the silver ones

That makes sense looking at this car, however IIRC they do not have those same wheels in chrome in those sizes correct?
