I'm looking at swapping a C4 tranny in place of my T5 as ive had a C4 given to me and my T5 is on its last legs(pops out of 1st, grinds going into 3rd and 4th) so im wondering what all i have to change to get the C4 to work in my 87 GT

my other swap question is does anyone make a regulator that will cut fuel pressure down enough with an injected pump to run a carb on my car?...not only am i swapping trannys but im also getting rid of the fuel injection as it is driving me batty

also will i be able to remove the injection wiring harness and computer if swapping to carb?...im installing an MSD 6AL ignition

Thanks, Keith

You need a matching set of C4 parts. A blockplate, flexplate, automatic style starter, and C4 with matching bellhousing. You can use either a 157 or 164 tooth setup. Both of mine are 164 tooth units. Make sure the flexplate bolt holes are the same pattern as the torque conveter. There are two sizes, 10 something inch and 11 something inch.

You need a vacuum hose to the modulator, a shift lever and linkage. Note there are two kinds of shift levers for the transmission, those that point up and those that point down. Can't remember which is a Mustang right now. It's easiest with a Mustang lever, but you can adapt a cable shifter, or use an aftermarket lever.

You should get a kickdown rod if you want part throttle/passing gear kickdown function.

Adapt the neutral safety and back up light switch wiring to the C4 switch.

Rear trans mount is a bit further forward. Adjust by moving the crossmember forward on the mounts.

The speedometer gears are different. I believe AOD gears work.

Don't know if the driveshaft works, but I think so.

I am going to a T5 on an original C4 car in the next few weeks.

i have tranny, kickdown linkage, and modulator vacuum tube from 78 Ford truck with a 302 in it

this one points straight up which i think is for column shift vehicles but im going to use a B&M or HURST aftermarket shifter

a bit as in less than an inch or a bit as in modifying crossmember?

will fix that when i swap to 4:10's :nice:
