i have a 99 cobra with flows and CAI. My question is have any of yall ran your cobra with stock gears, then with your current gears? What mods did you have at the time of 3.55 gears and what mods at the time of your new gears?

I'll probably go with 4.10s but would like advise about 3.73s up to 4.30s. One guy has told me that with 4.10s, you shift just shy of the 1/4 mile mark.

With traction not being a problem, what kind of decrease in 1/4 times can i look forward to with these different gears? Thank you for you input

Popular upgrade for the pre- 03/04 Cobra's is a set of 4:10's. Need to get that 4v spinning quicker and the lower gear ratio really wakes the car up. Never heard anyone complain after they performed the upgrade. Not sure what gains you'll see in the quarter mile though. I'm sure one of the other guys will pipe in and say though.

373 a bad gear why?

Why is 373 a bad gear for 99 cobra? What makes the 410 better and why?
How is it on city/highway driving in terms of gas usage or just how high the rpms will be at lets say cruising at the speed of 70mph

The DOHC loves to rev. The power band doesn't come on in the lower RPM's but in the higher range and the 3.73 just doesn't cut it when you need to get into the power. Take a ride in a 3.73 gear Cobra and then ride in one with 4.10's or even 4.30's and you will be amazed and notice a big difference. Even if they were equally matched mods wise, the 4.10/4.30 gears really wake up the car a lot. I had 4.10's in my 99 and went 4.30's on my 97 I have. Now 4.10s kinda hamper 1/4 mile times being you have to shift into 4th right before the traps, where the 4.30's will put the car in the power band when it crosses.

A Mustang owner should not be worried about MPG!! However, I have gotten 24 mpg with 4.30's.

Oh I would also venture to say a stock 99/01 Cobra with just 4.30's could take your car as it sits with all those mods.

Well what are you looking for?

If it helps, I drove my Cobra as a daily driver with 4.30's in it from Jan 2003-Jan 2008. I have driven from Virginia To Missouri and back, gone from Virginia to Kentucky and back.

I went with a 3.73 on my 01 with the T56 6 speed. I have no problem getting into the power band. And it is manageable on the street with summer tires as opposed to tire smoking 4.10's. 4.10's and up are great for the dragstrip with a good tire.

T56 is a different transmission than a T45 so you can't compare that one.

The 4.10's aren't the best gear for the dragstrip for reasons I previously mentioned. They are a great fun gear for the street though.
