I went out to KCIR this weekend and got a new best. The car is a burnt orange 97GT. It is stock except for an offroad H-pipe. Stock gears, paper filter, street tires, literally the only change is the H-pipe!. I ran a 14.266 @ 96.53 mph today, which was an improvement of .2s from previously.

The weather couldn't have been better! It was 50F, sunny, low humidity and high pressure. I did take out the spare and put max pressure in the front tires to reduce rolling resistance, and gave it hell power shifting. I'm still amazed it can run these kind of times. It was great fun and I can't wait to get the 2.3 running. :nice:

That is really impressive. Most people pull 15.0-14.6 in those cars stock.

You must have gotten out of the hole good and be a hell of a driver, you made the most of your trap speed.

Thanks. The traction was alright. My 60' time on that run was 2.184. I'm honestly not sure where it was making up time at... somewhere between the 60' and the finish line though. My best 60' of the day was a 2.125 but I unfortunately missed 4th, ended at [email protected]. I'm thinking with sticky tires, I might just be able to get a 14.0. How crazy would that be?

It's an 88. It has a 2.3 turbo which I've been playing with for a while.

That is a pretty good time, especially with the mods you have! Congrats:nice:

What year is your 4 cyl? I just bought a 1992 2.3 auto yesterday for $500. It needs a little tlc, but I'm glad I bought it.

yup, i pulled off a 13.97 with a 2.01 60 - so it's definitely possible

I'll buy some nittos for the 2.3 after a while. I converted it to 5lug, so I could easily throw them on the 97 and make a few passes. :nice:

Man, it's just so much fun making passes, I missed it all winter long. I had some bald good factory years on old wheels which I would often run at the drag strip, they normally did about .1 faster in the 60' than my regular street tires. Seems they turned to crap over the winter though. They were about .1 slower in the 60'. I spun in 1st to 4800rpm, spun into 2nd HARD, felt it get creepy loose into 3rd (at 60mph, that's not fun) and barked 4th  I put the regular street tires back on and bogged it off the line the next run. :rlaugh:

I made 11 passes today. :D

One pass was against a girl in a Firebird. I drove by on the way to the staging lanes and heard her friends yell to her: you run 13s, he's no problem! So we met in the staging lanes and shared some words. I said by all means, she should win (and it's the truth, even if it's an LT1). We got to the line, and I guess she was nervous. I got away with a .260 reaction time to her .700. Her 60' was a bit poor at 2.3 and she could never track me down. I ran a slower time (14.458 to her 14.182) but I was the first one accross the line.

Another race, I was against a honda with a big turbo, slicks and such. He was in the 12s at 108ish. His run against me, he blew the launch.. then he missed a gear. I was ahead until past the 1000' mark where he finally got it together enough to pass me. :rlaugh: I have to say, it's scary the way those slicks with about 5psi looked when he was slowing down! It looked like they were going to blow out, they were wobbling so much. Guess he broke something, because he was still sitting on the return road my next pass. Looking at the time slip, he had a red light, so I won that one too.

Yup, I know it is rare, very nice though. I thought they made some in 98 too? I remember clearly, the source I was looking at showed some made in 97 and some made in 98, but still less than 3000 total. Now, searching online I can't find this production number for 98 or a single 98 that is Autumn orange.

Anyone remember the aztec gold cars? :puke: There used to be one up the street from us, I think it was a 97 only option too.

I used to see another autumn orange mustang around here, but it had a tan leather interior which didn't look nearly as good as black.

Nice runs I used to have an Autumn Orange 97 just like yours. You know it is a very rare color? 1519 made only 1 year. My best in the 1/8 was 9.35 @ 75 mph. You must have good air and elevation.
