Blown a plug

You guys do know that if you install a new set of plugs, you have to crush the washer, back the plug off then retorque to 13ftlbs..

If you simple tighten it to 13ftlbs you stand a good chance for failure on a new set of plugs.

I checked mine at 34K on the clock and they were all nice and tight. I have also done several 2V motors that have each an additional 50,000 on them with no plug issues and no anti seize.

9 out of ten times when I read plug blow out on here, the owner has been playing with the plugs. One out of ten simply was taken by surprise.

threads like this scare the **** outta me :( you can certainly do all this work yourself, but BEWARE (lol) there are certain nuances to the install that have cause many here a great deal of heartache (i.e. oil plugs not being transferred over from old heads :() So, READ, READ, READ everything you can if you're going to go ahead and do cams too, not so much about the head. Did you take a look at fox lake? Look in the classifieds here too, sometimes there are sweet pairs of heads for sale.

Also, befriend a good mechanic/machinist, and buy him a 6-pack :) you will need his advice, cuz no matter how much people on here will willingly help you, there's nothing like an actual mechanic staring at your work to point out where you went wrong or what to do next :D When I blew a head gasket, I had one of the mechanics from the local dealership fix it on the side, at his house. He planed the heads, cleaned em and cleaned and oiled the valves, and did EVERYTHING along with extra seals and timing guides, for labor of $300. (im almost sure thats cheap labor, i hope it was  )

EDIT: what year is your mustang? those patriot heads from american muscle are for romeo heads

Had the same thing happen to me on my '01 GT with 103k on the motor. Cost me 500.00 at the Ford dealer to put in a Time-Sert, and it runs fine now. It's sad that I don't really trust it though, I mean, if one hole went bad, whats the odds of another one doing the same thing?
Might be time to let this one go...

:nice: Thats the same way my mustang is getting fixed, ford tech doing it on the side at his house. $300 to put in a ford aluminum insert into the head and new plugs all around. Never use a steel insert for aluminum heads, the heat range will be way off and the one plug will run hotter. My car will be done tomorrow:D
