I have a '89 GT with the 85mph speedometer and would like to use a 140mph speedo. If I buy a whole 140mph cluster will it all just plug right into my car or will I have to just use the speedometer part? Thanks for any help.
It will work just be sure to get one off the right year i'm not sure what it is but I think 89-93 are the same an 88 is different due to airbags "someone confirm this one for me". Be sure to write the miles down so you can have an accurate log of what the miles on the car are for later. If you have the money and want white face gauges this would be a good time to do it. That way you wont have to take it apart again at a later date. Good luck.
Ok so I look it up and the 87-89 are the same but only ssps and the later model 89's had the 140mph speedo. 90- 93 will work but you can only use the gauge and it some trimming is needed. I also learned that you can just set the miles yourself to have the correct miles. Here's a tread to tell ya more. http://forums.stangnet.com/709534-87-89-90-93-speedometer-differences.html
Buy the cluster. Take out the 140mph guage and stick it in your current one and it will work fine with no modification. Its what i did here with an overlay from upr. reqired no trimming or rewiring and took less that a half an hour to do. View attachment 309492
