I finally got an 86 GT t-top, a car that I have been wanting for about 10 years now. It has a few mods and is not perfect, but good enough for a project. I do have a question that I do need some help with.

The guy that sold me the car also gave me a pair of convertible doors. These doors are much straighter than the doors on it now. Can you put convertible doors on a t-top?

Yes. The doors are technically the same, but you need to use the t-top glass in the convertible door.

There are two types of vert doors. Up until 1987, they had mirrors just like your car.

In 1988 on the t-tops cars and convertibles, ford switched to the little pedastal mount side mirror. 1988 was the only year t-tops got those mirrors.

So if the convertible door is one of the 1983-1987 styles, you can use it with your t-top glass in them. if it's 1988 up, not sure it will work at all

Welcome, friend! I'm loving the red.

This is what I do: Take the T-Tops off and forget about them. Garage the car and only drive it on sunny days. You'll never have to worry about the expensive weatherstripping or dropping a top taking it on or off. The felts do wear out quickly, there doesn't seem to be much you can do about that. I was once told that using a mild skin lotion, like Vaseline, on the rubber seal around the top helps increase its lifespan. I did it once, but I can't say how much it actually helped. My car still has the original seals, but does have new felts. It leaks like a bitch in rain or when you wash it.

Try the doors, and post pictures of the results. I've always been curious how the 'vert mirrors would look, as the '86 mirrors suck and their trim warps and fades eventually. They also hold water after you wash the car. :notnice:

Edit: One more thing: Does the car still have the Marchal fog lamps? Keep the covers on them, because they seem to chip and crack very easily, and replacements are expensive. If you have ever owned a 4-eye before, you already knew that, though.

I have a two car garage and a car port so all my cars are covered. The t-tops are off now I just wish it would quit raining so I could drive it.

It does have the factory fog lamps. One lens is missing and neither of them work. I will probably end up removing them at some point and use the openings for brake cooling ducts.

This is my first four eye.

The doors have pedestel mount mirrors. I believe the previous owner told me that the doors were from a 93 vert.

I guess I can just put one on and find out if it will work or not.

They won't seal right but you can try. You would need to swap in the t-top glass but i am not sure it will since the glass near the mirror would be different.

Do you think 88 t-top side windows are available?

I will give it a try with the doors I have. I will probably wait until next summer since the car does need a paint job.

thanks for all the compliments everybody.
