who's got a solid roller setup?

anyone here have solid roller setup? do you drive it on the street? im goin solid roller for my new motor build up but no one around here has a setup even close to compare. what kinda setup do you have? post your setup an power made if you got the numbers. what kinda heads, cam, whats the combo you have. thanks in advance guys. any videos would be siick!

the thing that scares most people away from solid rollers is valve adjustments... Not alot of people want to adjsut the rockers every 500 miles.

My engine builder put it best when i asked him if i should have gone with a solid roller. His words-"If I dont feel like adjsuting my valves on my street car, neither are you." If i was going to the strip i would have put a solid cam in my motor and revved it to 7500 all day, but since i drive it on the street all the time its not really worth the stress on the drivetrain. If i swap to a Carburator, i'll probly throw a solid cam in the motor, but then its just gonna snowball from there, titanium retainers, new springs, turbo400 yada yada, the list goes on.
 
Dads 393 is a solid roller.

Race car, never on the street... yet :D.

393, nitrous pistons, AFR185s with upgraded springs, 690+ lift solid roller, FMS intake, carb, long tubes, bullet mufflers, 4-speed, 4.10s, all the chassis and suspension stuff.

Been 9.93 @ 136 and a 60' in the very low 1.4s spinning.
 
Just got done put a 347 with a flat tappet solid cam with cnc canfield heads and a holley systemax on it together. sounds good at idle and up to 3000rpm. (fuel pump went out). Going to put a new pump in it tonight and see how it does. Seems like it pull alote hard than the old setup.

thats exactly what im doin lol. my car is carbed. although my edelbrock 600 i think is a lil to small, i planned on getting a new one anyways. a demon of some sort an ill talk it over with the machinist that will be doing the block, heads and probably balancing the internals. i got my heads bare for this particular reason.

25thmustang...your dads car sounds like a beast..just a lil more then what im expecting an i would have thought the 185s were to small but with a time like that they seem pretty fit. i ended up changing my mind on the heads. was goin to do the 200 rhs, but am pretty sure im doin 215s with minor clean up an port to get them to flow a lil better. the machinist who will be doing it knows his stuff so he will be takin care of them. the cam i was gonna do is just over 600lift an the rpm range is around 3400-7500. with that cam i think it will be streetable but this car will not be my daily driver. more of a weekend warrior lol. i will be spraying up to a 300 shot on a nitrous controller too :lol:
 
Everyone said the 185s were too small, but the car has been done one season, and has been 9.93 still learning it, hitting the limiter in 3rd. Should go 9.8xs on motor, and then maybe a 200-250 shot deep into the 9s. It's not a street car, but might see a show or two when it becomes exempt from emissions.
 
i really dont think ill ever spray the full 300 shot. but even if i did its not gonna be 100% of it at the drop of the hammer. more so just to have if i need/want to use it. ill most likely spray 150-175 shot with the controller. i want 10s. once i have that im good. i dont need a 9sec car or want to deal with cops because im driving a 9 second car on the street lol. i dont see why i wouldnt be able to hit 10s even with marginal 60fts. ill only get to run once as i dont have a cage an dont plan on putting one in this car. by next winter my goal is to find a t top notch an swap the parts. then ill do cage. i guess we'll see what times an trap i run this summer lol.

If you havent bought a set of heads yet i would strongly reccomend looking into Trick Flow. I was never a big fan of their heads until i had them on my car. The same head i have is on my tuners car, which is making 900 whp with an F-2 blower, and neither him no myself did any cleanup work to the heads, the CNC port from trickflow is unbeatable for the price... Name a cylinder head that out of the box can work just as well on a 900 rwhp 363/F-2 combo, and on a 390 rwhp 345/NA motor... for under $2000... I know edelbrock has a CNC version of the victor jr. now too. I dont know mcuh about those RHS heads, but i do know that for the money the trick flow **** WORKS
 
I run a .672 lift solid roller on the street in my 410ci. motor, put about 1000 miles on it at the end of last season and the lash has stayed fine, no need for adjustment yet.
 
90lxcoupe; thanks for the advice, im sure the trick flows are a good heads. but i have my setup planned for the rhs heads. from flow charts directly from rhs and other magazines they flow pretty good and are a good out of the box head. my machinists just knows a few tricks to get about 50 more hp out of them so im doin that. no crazy port work, and even after there done from the machinist there still gonna be under $2000.

a885.0; how streetable is your setup? is it a hassle to drive it when you want on the street? i plan on driving mine a good amount. thanks in advance
 
nice! thanks. my goal is 450 rwhp an hopefully the same if not more torque. your car sounds bada**. i would have thought it would barely idle but its not bad at all. i will also be doin full 3 inch exhaust with x pipe. ill have mac catback though an probably either kooks or mac headers. keep me posted on your setup an power, an of course if you get more vids! thanks again
