Is there a good tutorial available somewhere for installing headers and x-pipe?

headers

i had a set of bbk shorty headers put on and all i can say is make sure that there not going to leak after your done bolting them up because you have to drop the whole front suspension to get to them go to a ford dealership and buy the steel gaskets for them there alittle pricey but you shouldnt have to worry about them leaking

I am in the same boat you are but I don't know if it is as easy as just jacking up the motor a little. A lot of folks say go to the trouble of dropping the k member. It is time consuming but not near the frustration of trying to get to the bolts as the method outlined in the instructions given above or by mac products.

I think I am going to drop the k member because the last thing I want is a header leak.

I plan on dropping the k member. It seems like there is barely enough room to fit any tools in there and i def dont want any leaks.

Why would i need to get a new gasket. is the one provided by bbk not good enough?

bbk headers

i have an 03 cobra and put bbk longtubes on myself...I used the gaskets and bolts from bbk...gaskets blow out very fast and bolts are too short and stripping threads are common...I had to reuse the stock meatal gaskets,,(which should have been done first)and had to buy longer bolts...this job is a pita...times range up to 15hrs for install,,,i do not pull k member and im like 3hrs on/off,,but have had mine off a dozen times and have learned some tricks,,,also i do mine with car on ground(jack stands)...only problem ive found is you must remove heater core hoses from heatercore unless you want to try replacing a heatercore which is twice as hard as headers..

Where can i get the bolts to replace the bbk ones? Can i get the gasket at a local parts store?

Hotcobra03,
can you share some of your tricks that might make this a little easier for me and anyone. i was thinking about making a tutorial as i do this. Might be nice to have some extra info. thankks

on my 03 cobra.this is what i do...i jack up the car and place old rims under wheels for jack stands..(it gives you more room and i feel safer) i remove the heatercore hoses and on the very back of motor is a gray plug for the transmission harness(only remove from bracket)when on bracket it hits fire wall when lifting engine..i than remove the oilfilter.and the nuts on the motor mounts..than i remove the brake booster from fire wall and mastercylinder, and move aside...most of the bolts8-10 of them you can do with a socket(qrt inch drive)..then to lift motor ,I use a come-along,and pull engine up from the front as high as i can go..this will allow you to see the back bolts and fit your hands in thier...going back together (if studs were removed) i used cleartape and tape gaskets to headers.....ford sells the steel stock gaskets..longer bolts can be found at any parts store.and the studs can stay in(well i know the drivers side you can, head was replaced by ford and they left the studs in) but when removing the headers this past summer to fix engine i did notice the stock nuts are tight and the bolts were alot eaiser to remove....also maybe im just lucky..with steel gaskets i never had a leak and the bolts never loosen ...also stock motor mounts are very cheap and should be replaced now while its up...remember with long tube header to replace clutch passenger side header has to come off...good luck
