Changing my gauges

  • Sponsors (?)

Sure! Our gauges are already blue, but the yellow from the standard bulbs turns them the greenish color. So, replace the bulbs behind the dash with white LED replacements. Only possible downside is that the LED's don't really dim anymore. I bought my bulbs from SUPER BRIGHT LEDS and got the Cool White bulbs.

From the site, you want the "Miniature Wedge Base" bulbs. On the next page, from the first option "WLED Miniature Wedge Base bulbs", click "Buy Now". This will FINALLY get you to the order page. Search for "WLED-x5 LED Wide Angle LED bulb" You then have color choices in a dropdown list. I recommend against red bulbs, they're nowhere near bright enough. From what I've read, using blue LEDs will simply get you a darker, harder to read blue.

Here's a link to another forum showing GT gauges in blue using these LED's:

These are the Cool White bulbs in my Cobra cluster. The blue is completely even in person, the camera got a bit confused with the brighter indicators on the bottom.

You can replace the bulbs in the HVAC system too. These are also an even brightness in person.

I forget how many of the bulbs you need for the cluster, 4 I think. You need 2 for the HVAC lighting.

According to the SVTPerformance.com thread, this will work for 94-98 clusters. 99-04 clusters are different somehow so the LED doesn't really change the green color.

Don't rule out putting 4 in the gages... My middle light burnt out and the holder was too deformed to hold a new bulb and my gages are pretty well lit with jsut 4 lights... I would change 4 of them and see how they look...

led's

So, we need 5 of them. Now my bro wants to do the same thing. He has a 97 GT. I think they are the same as ours right with regards to these bulbs size and number needed? Want to order 10 of them. So, are these the best ones to use out of the other options on the same page as these mentioned? these are 194's right? Oh and the cool white are the brightest ones right?

194's are the best and the brightest. The WLED-5 have, as the name implies, 5 LED's in each bulb. Less LED's won't be as bright, and I'm not sure if more LED's per bulb will fit in the cluster. The 94-98 clusters should all be the same; the 99-04 use smaller bulbs.

The SVTPerformance thread mentioned something about sanding off the blue film, but I don't know anything about that. Try at your own risk. I tried red bulbs on my green GT, and they weren't close to bright enough. I can barely see the gauges at night. :( I'll try to get a photo tonight so you can see.

The brightest bulbs are actually the green ones. The three white bulbs are the next brightest (Cool, Natural and Warm), they're equal in luminosity. Looks like the WLED-6 bulbs will fit, but they only shine their light in front - you'll have dark spots in your cluster. The WLED-5 bulbs shine their light all over, like a standard bulb.

OK, got photos of WLED-5 Red bulbs in my GT's cluster. In person, all of the gauge is in red but the brightness is about right.

The HVAC is worse. This is literally all I can see:

This should give you an idea on the brightness difference between the Cool White and the Red LED's.

Holy Cap man, those bulbs made a HUGGGE difference. I wasnt expecting them too look that good. It brightened them way up and they look absolutely awesome with my autometer phantoms. And i think someone said with these bulbs you wont have the ability to dim them, but mine dim just fine. THEY'RE AWESOME!!! Thanks chythar!!!:SNSign: Oh and ill put some pics up in a day or soo.

Glad you like the bulbs. Mine don't dim much at all, nothing like the stock bulbs. But since I like the gauge lighting to be as bright as possible, I personally don't care if they dim.
