V-1 SC trim.... the 5-6psi version

Who's got one and how pleased have you been? I understand there will be a lot of people coming in here and saying the 5-6psi isn't enough.... but really.. it's probably just right. I'm not building a race car. I just want a decent upgrade and retain the streetability of the car. It's still relatively unmolested and has just under 40k in mileage.

I'm pretty settled on this unit... I just figured I'd put a thread out there and gather more opinions. This will be a winter project in all liklihood.

thanks for your time.

Had a SC-trim on my car with a stock engine and it was a dog. So bad in fact that I felt it was a waste of money to put the blower on the car, put a 8" crank pulley and UPR powerpipe on the car and it made 357hp and 383trq but was way way rich, needed a tune bad.

Hope that helps, btw..turbo all the way. ;)

I love mine!! When my engine was stock, all I had was a bigger MAF,TB and exhaust, added the SC Trim and made 275 rwhp!! Far from a dog, in my case. For a street car, it is a nice, inexpensive alternative. I mean really, how much power, and how fast are you going to go on the street?! You can always pulley the SC trim down, with an 8 rib and get 9-10 lbs of boost, which will max out the SC, but a really nice power adder, like 100+ rwhp! Love the Vortech!!!

Your car (and your PM) is the reason i'm most likely going to end up going the turbo route :nice:

So let's see.... 350hp with mods... 275hp on a stock set up.

If I tweak it a bit and land in the middle... say 300ish.... that would be perfect on
a three thousand pound car.

thanks for the feedback.

Exactly... I got nuthin right now!!

Now I just need to search around to get tips on install and to find out what else I need to get to make this a great addition. I'm seeing injectors and a larger volume fuel pump so far?

No mention of a larger throttle body or mass air being ESSENTIAL.

I'd like to do this as minimally as possible at first.... then later add things. We're only talking 5-6 psi....

it will be better than the supercharger thats on your car now.

:) Thanks! You should ride in one, that would really sell you on the idea.

Do NOT put that supercharger on your car without buying this:
MAF
Injectors
GSS340 Fuel Pump
Tune

I don't care what anyone says, DON'T do it unless you're going to do it right. Don't change the stock throttle body, I wouldn't change the throttle body until you get the rest of the car done, they are a waste of money...I don't care what anyone says. Performance gain vs money spent on a throttle body makes it one of the worst mods you can buy. Take that money and put it towards a tune and fuel system first.

The SC-trim was 6 rib when I bought mine(it was a V1, I haven't been around Vortechs in awhile) so when you plan on upgrading remember it's going to cost you some money. Time I bought headers/midpipe/injectors/fuel pump/swapped to 8-rib setup/power pipe/aluminum discharge tube/bypass valve for my SC-trim I could of bought a turbo kit. I honestly was disgusted at myself for spending that much money on the car and it didn't even get me close to the word "happy".

The best advice I can give you is, buy used. I sold my entire kit that was 3 months old max with all those upgrades for $1200 bucks. Hope this helps!

That Vortec kit usually goes for like $1,800.00 I believe.

For a $700 more I was going to go this way ->

B&G STAGE 1 [79-93FULLKIT] - $2,500.00 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

92GreenGT - unfortunately i don't know anyone with a turbo mustang. I did have a WRX and that was alotttt of fun! If the fox is almost as fun as that car was i'll be happy! :)

Yeah that's a LOT more kit than the vortech kit is too. It's really not $700 more time you factor in buying headers and upgrades on the Vortech kit, the turbo kit actually ends up being CHEAPER.

Your car will be more fun than a WRX could ever think about being.:p

Thanks for the tip.

Although you seem to dispise the Vortech now... would happen to still be able to advise what injectors or MAF you'd recommend? And is that a specific fuel pump that most places would have on a the shelf...ie like Summit?

Tune is a must..... very understandable.

Thanks again!

I don't despise the Vortech at all, just don't want to see someone unhappy after spending a lot of money like I did when a better option is out for the same price/cheaper.

I've got #42 injectors in my car and wished I would of gone with #60 injectors from the get go. Either would be plenty for you though, just look for whatever you can find the best deal on. For the MAF I would look at the BA2400 MAF, the fuel pump is a Walbro GSS340 aka 255 "high pressure". Good luck!!

Very happy with my Paxton 1220, with a 2.95 pulley getting ~8 boost @ 5500 rpms. Car idles and drives fine. Does not give the scary power of the old muscle cars cause the hp only comes on at high revs, but the little sucker is quick! No dyno tune yet, nearest is 2 1/2 hours away, but I know that I need one just to sure the AF is right. In my opinion the V3 is a better deal than the 1220 and will get you to 10 # with just a pulley change.
