3.73s

how much will 3.73s hurt my gas milage

From what? 3.31? That mod reduced my Highway MPG by about 8 to 10 Percent. In town its up to me. If choose gears which result in the lowest RPM, then I can get about 3 percent better mpg. But if I get aggressive, its 13% worse. The latter is hard to avoid. Hopping on the highway is more fun.

But that is on a 5-speed with 3.73's. A 6-speed with 3.73's is like a 4.11 for your car, correct?

5spd or six speed doesnt matter. what matters is the final drive ratio of the tranny which would be close to each other. i went from 355s to 410s and my rpms went up only 300 at 70mps in overdrive. or 5th gear which ever you prefer to call it. biggest thing to think about is if you are worried about gas mileage then you probably shouldnt be modifying the car anyways

according to the research i done on trans ,5 or 6 speed the gear ratio is realitive to application, and only 1 gear differed by application, these are not exact but, 331 gear cars came with 338 first gear 5 speed where factory 355 and 500 came with 295 first gears trans both five and six in 05-10 applications, however there was some choices on final drive numbers:Track:

If you talking about the 2011 GT with its 6 speed. Were it me, I think I would opt for the 3.55s. Because of the lower 1st and Higher 6th, 1st will be like the 5 speed with 3.73s. And 6th would be like the 5 speed with 3.31s. Seems about right to me from how I drive my car. Spirited but not racing.

Sounds like a good combo. My '10 GT with 3.73s is quick off the line, but feels likes it needs a 6th gear overdrive when I settle in on the freeway at 70 or so. In fact I sometimes reach down to shift for a 6th gear that isn't there...

Hi Big Large, what year is your mustang? I have an 06 GT 5sp auto, and I have been thinking of going with the 410s, I have done some research as to what kind of RPM changes I will be looking at, off the top of my head I think the consensus has been around a 400-700 RPM difference at 70mph in 5th from my stock 331 gears, I hoping for the lower 400, but I'm sure it will be closer to 600 or 700, what RPMs are you turning at 70mph in 5th?

mustanglvr my stang is an 05 with the the manual. im turning 2550rpm at 70 in 5th with the 410s and 2750rpm at 75mph. im loving my 410s but my car is a fun car for the most part. only put 2300 miles on it since i bought it in november. 1st goes by quick, 2nd feels almost like stock 1st gear and 3rd and 4th pull like a beast. my car is stock other than mufflers and the gears. im ordering my cai and tuner from americanmuscle tomorrow so im pretty pumped about that

We have the same car dude. Get a brenspeed/cai tune combo first or when you order your 4.10 gears. The car is so much better with 4.10s. My car ran a 13.9 stock. With gears, tune/cai it ran a 13.4. Huge difference in how it drives and responds to the gas pedal. Dont be afraid to mod your stang!!!

I agree 100%. 6th gear on the new car is only about 4% taller than 5th last year. In one of the magazine comparison tests, they showed each car's rpm at 60mph. The new stang was at 1,950 with the 3.73 whereas the competition was about 500 rpm lower.

Given that the new car has over 100 more hp, almost 100 more lb/ft of torque and six closely spaced gears, it should still really rip from 0-100. Many people say the drop in rpm at freeway speed isn't great enough to justify the decrease in performance. Well if the change isn't that great at freeway cruising, how can it be that much better for acceleration?

Hey thanks for those #'s Big Large, good to know...looks like ViperNuge has exacty the #'s I'm looking for, being that his car is auto with 410s.

Hey Viper, what kind of RPMs are you turning at 60mph and at 70mph in 5th? I have been very curious about this since I started thinking about doing the 410s rather than the 373s. I am not worried about the gas mileage, just more concerned about the revs at higher speeds.

I have been looking and looking to get the exact #'s on this for a while now, I'd appreciate if you could tell me. Thanks in advance man.

I had 4:56's in my 2008 gt I just sold, I loved them! even making that big of a jump from 3:55's I got better city mpg, and lost about 3mpg on the highway. but it was worth it. I dropped my 1/4 times by about .5 seconds

BigLarge,

Wow, that is high RPM, but then you ahve 410s. My 07 with 373 is @2500 at 80. Shifting sounds the same. 3rd and 4th pull like mad. 5th seems a little high strung. I wish mine had a 6 speed.
