Installing a 9 inch in the 95

I want to put a 9 inch rear end in my 95. Just not really sure how to get the brackets all set up in the right places to be welded. I already have the 9 inch and dont want to have to redo the rear end again when i put a bigger engine in it, so i dont want to use an 8.8 even though it would be much easier to just bolt one in. Anybody know how to get it set up and welded in the right spots?

It'll cost you twice as much to put the 9" in the car vs just getting the 8.8 done right. You'll have to give up your ABS if you have it, and probably you're parking brake too. In the end you're going to have an old clunky 9" rear that you spend more money on then just fixing your 8.8" rear end up right. The 8.8" is a much better axle, and parts have gotten very reasonable for it now.

True story. If this is a track only car, maybe, but still more work and cost then making a 8.8 even stronger than the 9 inch. Sell the 9inch to someone who can reasonably use it and use the money to buy a 8.8 if you don't already have one.

The 9 inch has already been built with a full spool and 3.73 gears. The parking brake is very simple to get all set up and I have no ABS. All I have to do is weld on the mounting brackets and bolt it in. I originally built the axle for my camero but I sold it when the trans went. So if I can get the mounts set in the right places, it wont cost me anything at all. Maybe just take the 7.5 axle out and measure where the mounts are welded?

are you sure that the rear end is the right width because it was built for your camaro and i doubt they have the same width rear ends as 94-95 mustangs

if it is a different width id recommend selling the rear end on a camaro forum(like ls1tech) and using the money to find an 8.8 to build which will be lighter than a 9in also

Doubtful it will be the right width. Those 9"s have a lot of heavy internals, and suck a lot of hp. It's going to slow you down quite a bit with a basic 5.0 engine. I still think it's going to be cheaper to do the 8.8. If the stock locker works fine, all you need is a set of forged shafts, which is under $300. That and a girdle ($150 range) and the rear end will hold 500 to the wheels with no problems.

Depends on what you want to get out of it. For a basic Foxbody it goes as such for parts. Obviously labor is going to be on top of this, and it varies in price a lot.

1. Locker rebuild - $100
2. 28 spline shafts - $280
3. Girdle - $150
4. Gears - $240
5. Weld the tubes to the pumpkin

Strange just started making 31 spline axles (maybe 33 as well) that work with the stock disk brakes. Not sure how much those are. If you have disk brakes then you don't need to do a C-clip elinator kit. If you go with a drum brake setup, you're going to need to do a C-clip eliminator setup. Not sure how much those go for these, days, I haven't checked into it in awhile. Drum brakes are also going to require a different master cylinder.
