Last weekend a guy from SVTP and I swapped my SRA for his built IRS out of his '03 Cobra. What a deal! Straight trade for both of us, he really wanted the SRA because he had 600hp and didn't want to blow the IRS, and I wanted a better ride and better handling.
I traded my solid axle, Magnaflow catback, Bilstein HD's, stock control arms, cut Bullitt springs, etc. for:
'03 Cobra IRS - subframe, control arms and shocks have 79k mi, half-shafts have 24k, entire carrier and internals recently rebuilt with 8k mi on it
FRPP carrier with carbon clutches
FRPP solid shim kit
FRPP 4.10 gears
Ford Axle bearings
Billetflow IRS brace
Prothane pinion bushing
Bilstein HD's for IRS
Intrax Drag springs (ok for now, but I will be replacing them with MM coilovers)
Polished Magnaflow tailpipes with tips (no mufflers - he wanted to keep his Stingers, otherwise it would be a straight swap)
We completed the entire swap in one day and the only parts I needed to do the swap were:
$30 - Precision 448 u-joint
$100 - used Magnaflow mufflers from an IRS car with the inlet and outlet on the same sides of the muffler
$25 - used Brothers Performance Speedcal
If I sell my Magnaflow mufflers I have for sale, It will have only cost me ~ $50 to do the entire swap!
This was a completely worthwhile swap, and I think I made out like a bandit! The car handles like its on rails, and the ride is so much smoother. It feels like a completely different car, and doesn't walk all over the road like it did with the SRA.
I highly recommend this to any GT owners out there who want their car to handle amazingly and ride like a Caddy.
Future plans for the IRS include:
MM Coilovers for the rear to replace the Intrax drag springs
Send my shocks to Bilstein to be rebuilt and grooved for the coilovers
MM Urethane subframe and carrier bushings
Low-profile IRS bolts
Please excuse the pics, my car is filthy.
