New Mods on the Bullitt w/ pics (IRS Content)

Last weekend a guy from SVTP and I swapped my SRA for his built IRS out of his '03 Cobra. What a deal! Straight trade for both of us, he really wanted the SRA because he had 600hp and didn't want to blow the IRS, and I wanted a better ride and better handling.

I traded my solid axle, Magnaflow catback, Bilstein HD's, stock control arms, cut Bullitt springs, etc. for:

'03 Cobra IRS - subframe, control arms and shocks have 79k mi, half-shafts have 24k, entire carrier and internals recently rebuilt with 8k mi on it
FRPP carrier with carbon clutches
FRPP solid shim kit
FRPP 4.10 gears
Ford Axle bearings
Billetflow IRS brace
Prothane pinion bushing
Bilstein HD's for IRS
Intrax Drag springs (ok for now, but I will be replacing them with MM coilovers)
Polished Magnaflow tailpipes with tips (no mufflers - he wanted to keep his Stingers, otherwise it would be a straight swap)

We completed the entire swap in one day and the only parts I needed to do the swap were:

$30 - Precision 448 u-joint
$100 - used Magnaflow mufflers from an IRS car with the inlet and outlet on the same sides of the muffler
$25 - used Brothers Performance Speedcal

If I sell my Magnaflow mufflers I have for sale, It will have only cost me ~ $50 to do the entire swap!

This was a completely worthwhile swap, and I think I made out like a bandit! The car handles like its on rails, and the ride is so much smoother. It feels like a completely different car, and doesn't walk all over the road like it did with the SRA.

I highly recommend this to any GT owners out there who want their car to handle amazingly and ride like a Caddy.

Future plans for the IRS include:

MM Coilovers for the rear to replace the Intrax drag springs
Send my shocks to Bilstein to be rebuilt and grooved for the coilovers
MM Urethane subframe and carrier bushings
Low-profile IRS bolts

Please excuse the pics, my car is filthy.

Looks good, & I bet it rides MUCH better. Im getting ready to do this same swap in my 03 Mach as well, I already have the IRS swap sitting in my garage, just need to find someone to help me do it... I was getting ready to install my rear torque arm to finish off my rear SRA, but I decided IRS would be better for what I wanted out of my car, which is a smooth driver that handles good. Besides I have my Fox for drag racing duty anyway...

Yea the ride is amazing compared to my SRA. No comparison. You'll love the IRS, I've only had it for a few days and I LOVE it.

Awsome swap!!! Tail pipes look amazing from the rear :)

Thanks man, just another one of the perks of the IRS!

Once you swap out those springs in the rear the ride will stiffen up a little but it will still be better then your old solid. It's amazing how much it balances out the car. I think that more cobra guys would hold onto the IRS if they were into turning corners rather then 1/4 times.

Not trying to hijack but I can give you a hand with installing your IRS Dustin. I just have to wait till things calm down a little for me because I just got the keys to my new house Friday and am in the process of moving. Shoot me a pm if you want.

Thanks for all the compliments guys! Unfortunately I don't have any progress pics during the install because I didn't wanna get my DSLR dirty which is my only camera, and I didn't have any buddies there that weren't dirty from working on the car. I really should just buy a cheap point-and-shoot camera for instances like this where I want documentation pics, and don't care if the camera gets a little dirty.

Mazen189 - Funny you say that because if I was behind a GT, Bullitt, or Mach 1 with those tails, I'd do a double take as well.

Are those pictures with the tailpipes all polished up?

They were polished by the previous owner, but not that well. I needed to get the car together because it's my DD so I just hit them with some Flitz polish to clean them up a bit, and bolted them up. When have some free time, maybe over the winter, I'll take the tails off, get a case of beer, and sit in my basement and polish them up fully. They look good, but since I DD the car, they get kinda dirty easily.
