Just installed a Vortech V2 S Trim

Hey everyone so about a week or so ago I installed a Vortech V2 into my '04 Sonic Blue GT. I wanted to ask you guys if my results were pretty common with other guys running that kit. Here is what it has currently...

BBK Long Tubes w/ BBK Catted X Pipe
Flowmaster 50 Series
Vortech V2 (non-intercooled)
Kenne Bell Boost a Pump
Lightning 90 MAF
Anderson Powerpipe
Lucas 38 lb/hr. Injectors
NGK TR6 Plugs (gapped to .028")
Richmond 3.90 Gears
MGW Short Throw
FRPP 70mm TB
C&L Upper Intake Plenum

After my dad and I put it in over the weekend we took it to Matt @ Performance Evolution in Middletown, DE. I would just like to say if you are around the area go to him!!! He is a really good guy all around.

Car dyno'd 395rwhp and 394lb*ft @~11psi what do you think?

Those numbers look pretty damn good to me! 1 question/concern... isn't 11 psi a little high for a non intercooled setup?

Very nice numbers. The A/F ratio is kind of all over the place. A little more tuning could smooth it out, but it looks like it is safe. You might want to look at an intercooler/aftercooler(they don't work that as well as intercoolers and get hot) or maybe meth injection down the road.

+1 also are you running the stock pump? if so its time to upgrade, you would be pushing that puppy to the max:eek:

you should look in to meth inj for 11 psi, your IAT's have to be thru the roof. on that same note, i know a guy who is pushing 11psi non intercooled through a non-pi motor w/ pi intake and he hasnt popped his motor yet, but the tune is VERY safe. Those are very good numbers though.

Im making 14lbs on stock internals. It can be done:nice:

It can be done but you are running it through an intercooler. :D

To the OP: Great numbers but be careful running that much non intercooled boost. All of that hot air increases your risk for detonation. Even with a good tune you are running the upper limits of the stock internals and you are running psi above what is recommended for a non-intercooled setup. You will most likely be fine in the short term but I would start thinking about some cooling.

i will 2nd that. thats why i said that your iat's have to be thru the roof, and at a minimum you should look at meth injection. ultimately, you should run either an intercooler or vortech aftercooler to lower the temps, because you are on borrowed time. the meth WILL help, but dont get it retuned to adjust for the lower iat's and increase timing because eventually your bottom end will blow. play it safe, unless of course you have around $3k to drop on a short block. the stock rods have a tendancy to put windows in the block, and imho its smarter to be safe than sorry. running that much boost with out some kind of cooling is like sleeping with a hooker with out a rubber, not smart. :nono: just my 2 cents.

Good numbers for sure. Yeah like everyone said, the stock fuel pump if it is would concern me, even with the bap. Throw a focus pump in or even a gt500 pump. WHen I was nonintercooled with the stock 3.6" pulley I made about 370. I dont have long tubes, just factory mani's. When I went with the intercooler and pulleid down still running about 9psi I made 400 at the wheels, but I def. feel much safer now :nice: Now I have been told my place I dyno at reads low, so the tuner estimated me at 420-425 so who knows, all I know is it runs like a raped ape for now and I love it:flag:

At MINIMUM an SVT Focus pump... and I think 42lb injectors would give you a little more safety cushion.

Aside from that, everything seems normal. I would not expect the stock pump to keep up for long on a BAP.

Hey everyone thanks for the info alright I will try and answer a few questions and than i have a couple....

So first of all it is on the stock internals, and I have the stock pump with the BAP. From what I have heard you can run into problems with using the SVT 255lph pump. The main problem being you can wind up pulling more fuel out of the tank than you have on tap in the basket the pump sits in thus running dry. People have drilled holes in the basket for that exact reason but IMO you can wind up losing fuel out of those same holes. I agree though I should probably at least buy a new fuel pump. As of now at redline (max boost) my fuel pump is at 90% duty cycle. Also the 38lb lucas injectors are good supposedly for around 450rwhp.

As far as intercoolers go how difficult is it to set one up with a vortech kit. How will my plumbing change etc? And does anyone know what a good IAT range is. I have an sct tuner that I can data log with so i could find out what they are right now. Thanks for all the replies

Here is my intercooler install thread

Yes you are correct on the fuel pump, and that is one reason I wouldnt really want to run a focus pump. I would rather suggest running a 03/04 Cobra Tank since it has the baffling which keeps fuel in the pumps under 1/4 tank or around hard corners or braking etc etc. The pumps along with a bap should hold almost 600hp I think, you will then be limited by your injectors. I had 37lbs injectors before I installed my intercooler and my tuner suggested I just get some 42's to be safe, I know its not much, but every little bit helps. Save yourself some money for a cobra tank and pumps:nice:

@BlownStangGT

Thanks a lot for the information it looks like you really did some quality work there. The FMIC looks super mean through the front and of course the Cobra front bumper is awesome! If you don't mind me asking what does a set up like that run? I am trying to figure out what I can reuse I noticed you picked up a different MAF. I am running at Lightning 90mm right now and if possible would like to keep that. In response to what you mentioned about injectors I agree 100% however it seems FRPP stopped selling the 42lb injectors which is a huge pain in the ass. I am sure I can find a used set somewhere though because a little extra safety cushion always helps. So all in all it looks great do you know if all FMIC require you to modify the bumper I saw you did some cutting there? And finally please tell me you have some videos of that little beast I would love to hear it run. Thanks again!

As far as the complete kit, I got lucky, I found someone who had installed on on thier wifes car and she didnt like the sound of the bypass so he pulled off the kit, so I was lucky in that I didnt have to piece a kit together. On ebay crx racing or whatever they are sell kits and you will just need to fit and cut piping etc. You will need another MAF if you go with an intercooler becaue currently yuour lightning meter is draw through, with an intercooler it turns into a blow through set up, so you will need a new MAF. They can be found used for a decent price or new is not to pricey, best would probably be a PMAS blow through.

As far as the injectors I didnt know ford stopped making the 42's I didnt know that. If I didnt get my 42's for a good price I woulda bought some 60's. You cant ever be to safe when you are talking about forced induction!

Depending how you mount your intercooler you may have to modify the bumper support, but as far as body panels etc, no you will nto have to modefy the bumper itself or anything else:nice:

As far as videos I dont have to many, but here is one from a track pass

YouTube - 2001 Mustang GT-5 Spd-Vortech-Intercooler-Drag Strip-Cecil County, MD

So far I have gone 11.8 @ 118.9 with some slicks and skinnies

This video was before I put the intercooler on it

I went with meth over the intercooler (a labonte system). I would :nice: to anyone that asks. You need to do something at those boost levels. For the most part an intercooler will be a more complex install and more expensive. I don't mind having to fill the meth once every week or two. It's just 0 degree windshield wiper fluid.
