Hey guys, I'm new to the forums and to mustangs as well. That being said I love this car a lot more than I thought I would!

I'm shopping summit for a clutch kit and I'm confused because there are so many options for my model year.

I know from the door tag that I have a T5 trans, but summit is giving me the following options that I'm not sure about:

- 10 or 26 input spline quantity? Is it talking about the input shaft of my trans?
- Input shaft diameter: 1 1/8 inch? 1 1/16 inch?
- Disc diameter? 264 or 279 mm?

My car is a '93 GT

I thought I would consult the knowledgeable people on this forum before trusting the phone guy from Summit.

Thanks!
Jason

My choice for clutch & quadrant for street use:
Ford Racing M-7560-A302N - Ford Racing Clutch Kits - Overview - SummitRacing.com Ford Racing M-7560-A302N king cobra clutch kit $215-$245

Ford Racing M-6375-B302 - Ford Racing Flywheels - Overview - SummitRacing.com flywheel, cast iron $92

While you are at it, replace the stock cable & quadrant if it is still present.
The quadrant needs to be replaced if you use any type of aftermarket cable or adjuster. My preference is a Ford Racing quadrant, adjustable cable and Steeda firewall adjuster. The adjustable Ford Racing cable is just a good as the stock OEM cable. It allows a greater range of adjustment than a stock cable with a aftermarket quadrant and firewall adjuster. Combined with the Steeda adjuster, it lets you set the initial cable preload and then fine tune the clutch engagement point to your liking without getting under the car.

Using a stock OEM cable and a single hook quadrant may result in not having any free pedal travel before the clutch starts to disengage. I found this out the hard way.

Hey guys, thanks very much for the info.

I have already replaced the binded oem cable with a new kit from 50resto (i think) and it fits beautifully.

Based on what you guys are saying, I guess this would be a valid kit for my '93:

I don't plan on getting crazy hp with this car, so drivability is my main concern. Right now, pedal effort is pretty stiff.

Would the Centerforce Dual Friction make pedal effort heavier than stock?

Maybe the clutch fork/other hardware in bellhousing is old and crusty and just needs to be replaced. But I am definitely hoping to reduce pedal effort.

Thanks!

Hey Jason, a 93 GT with the stock T5 will require a 10.5" clutch with the 1-1/16" 10 spline disc.

As far as what clutch to use, what do you plan on doing with the car in the future? Do you plan to leave it near stock or start piling on the mods? Do you stay on the street, go to the drags on sticky tires, open track road course?

Hi,

The car will be boltons only, including heads at some point. I'm guessing after all said and done what would that be 275 whp max?

I'm mainly interested in driveability though. An uncomfortably stiff or grabby clutch can severely decrease day to day driving comfort.

In my Civic I could easily keep clutch depressed while waiting a minute or so at a traffic light. This car not so much. The Civic does have a hydraulic clutch though. :)

Anyways, I'm assuming I just have worn parts on stock clutch and that any reasonable replacement will result in reasonable and enjoyable clutch feel/effort/feedback.

Anyone have before/after clutch stories to help me out on selection?

Thanks!
Jason

Jason, at your estimated power level, our SVE Mongoose or the RAM HDX would be excellent choices. Check out our Clutch Kit Buyers Guide so you can better determine what works for your personal tastes.
