Looking at an 07 GT. What is the deal with the gas pedal?

Hello, I had an 03 DSG GT but sold it a few years ago and I am looking to get back into a stang. I test drove a 07 GT and the gas pedal really bugs me. It seems like you have to push it an inch or two before it even responds? This really bugs me since it is a 5 speed. I guess maybe you would get used to it but I sure don't remember my old GT being that way. Is this normal?

Also the car doesn't feel as fast as my old GT? This one has exhaust and cold air. My old one only had exhaust and a programmer and it felt faster. Seems like it is kind of a dog until it hits 3500-4000 rpms.:(

I have an 07 and yes there is some throttle lag, but only at low rpms. I have heard that with a tune that goes away but I have yet to do it. Older mustangs were built for more low end power. The new ones hits 300 hp at 5200 ish and 320 torque at 4500, so yes the power hits a little higher but it's more overall. Also you're making up for an extra 500 lbs or so. a GT weighs about 3500 lbs. I'm sure its more if you load it with options like automatic, convertible, 1000 watt sound system...
I love the car though. I've heard a cold air intake with a tune should net you 20 rwhp and get rid of the throttle lag. There's lots of ways you can save some weight too. swap out the rad support, k-member, driveshaft, LCAs, racing seats or whatever else you want I guess.

I went from an 03 to an 08 and there really is no comparison, IMO. The 03 was just so-so. The 08 goes. it has a cai and tune, but it went even B4 that. Tune helped with throttle lag, as did calibrating the gas pedal. May even try cleaning your MAF, throttle body and changing the fuel filter.

Recalibrating your Throttle
Recalibrating the throttle by turning the key in the on position and pressing down to the floor ( total 3 seconds ) then release for 3 seconds.
1- Turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine(dashboard lights come on and chime sounds).
2- After the chime stops, smoothly depress the gas pedal to the floor while counting 1001-1002-1003.
3- Release the gas pedal using the same procedure in 2. (total of 6 seconds pushing/releasing)
4- Wait 6 seconds, and turn the ignition to OFF.
5-Start her up and enjoy

**If it is really quiet when you do this, you can actually 'hear' the computer learning/resetting throughout this procedure.....there is a slight 'whine' when you push the gas pedal down/up(it sounds different the faster or slower you go), and 'clicking' sounds during the wait periods

I just had to replace my accelerator pedal because it basically stopped responding at low rpm's (i.e., minor pressing of the pedal from the idle position.) Just seemed to have went bad on me. With the new pedal I am now back with instant response with just a minor pressing of the pedal.

I'm glad you were able to replace your pedal and have gotten your 'stang's responsiveness back! :)

2003DSG,

I suggest having a technician look at the Mustang before you buy it, just to make sure there are no underlying problems. If needed, you can locate your nearest dealership here.

The issue is the 05+ stangs use a fly by wire system no more throttle cable hooked up to the pedal. The computer has to tell the engine how much you push down on the pedal and there is some delay to that. A tune should take most of that out.
