Hi, just installed a BBk equal length, off road xpipe and a flowmaster 44 kit on my 91 lx. Found out it leaks at the collectors. Ive read to use everything from RTV silicon, ultra copper gasket whatever to anti seize lube. Seriously what should i use??
Also.. I love loud cars. Had many (69Torino,87 Mustang)with short exhausts etc. However this is my commuter. Is this exhaust combination unbearably loud?? Yes I know it was loud because it wasnt sealed. But even behind the mufflers I swear I woke the dead. Would going to a ON road xpipe be quieter? Im no puss here, I just dont wanna attract too much attention. Thanks for reading my first official post. David

What header gasket did you use? You didn't use those paper one's that came with the headers did you? For aftermarket headers copper gaskets with locking header bolts is the only way to go

Ok..ok. My headers ARE sealed and the unGodly sound is the work of cheap flowmasters at the end of a free flowing big pipes. Its like a metal Kazoo! Know people like these but am guessing on mainly stock components. On headers and an of xpipe for me I need a quieter muffler. From stock to this set up was like crickets to having Rosanne scream in my ear.
Question. Would it be a lil quieter with Magnaflows or should I go to a multi chamber muffler or resonators??

BBK shorty equal lengths are about 1-1.5 inches wider than the stock headers from collector to collector. I found this out the hard way when mounting my x pipe. I had go go back to my unequal lengths and have somebody pry on the X pipe while I bolted up the collector. I did eventually get it to fit but it was a strain. The unequals are about .5-1 inch wider than the stockers at the collector. As for loud, flowmasters are flowmasters... The drone killed me. Never again will i go with flows.
