Should I trade my 97 GT for this 99 GT?

Well, a buddy of mine has been after my 97 GT for a while, and he finally offered up his 99 GT. I'm on the edge. I can't make up my mind what I want to do, so I need a little bit of someone else's input to make up my mind! Here's a quick rundown of both cars...

My 97 GT...
128,000 miles, honestly the cleanest SN95 car I have ever seen. Black on grey cloth, all original besides a set of Eibach Sportlines, K&N, Offroad X, MAC Catback.NO flaws besides one dime size ding. I will let the pictures speak for themselves...

His 99 GT

134,000 miles, Flowmaster catback, Underdrives, BBK TB, BBK CAI, Automatic, HO Fibertrends hood, BBK Shorty headers, Offroad H, fresh full tune-up. Has a few flaws like a 1.5" long crack in the front bumper, the hood is white, and has a dime sized ding as well.

Both of us are keeping our wheels, so they don't matter.

No way. Keep what you have.

The auto is a turn off, and the '99-'04 cars just look so BORING and pedestrian IMO. They don't look like Mustangs at all to me.

The '94'-'98 cars are way more stylish IMO. I also would avoid a '99, just because it's the first model year for that body style (though I realize it's still an SN) and I usually prefer the latter cars for a given body style. A '99 GT just seems really "meh" when compared to an '02-'04 or whatever.

Wow, i'm amazed that you guys like my car better. There's no doubt that my car is nicer, but i'm thinking about driveability more than anything. I dread driving the 97 anywhere because of how nice it is. I'm always thinking that something will happen to it. The 99 is just a car, nothing special at all. It's not fast at all, but neither is the 99. IDK what to do!!!

No... i wouldnt even consider it. you car is way cleaner, and clean 94-98's are getting pretty hard to find.

keep your car and do a pi swap if your wanting to go faster, the only thing that car has over your is it's probably a little quicker. thats it!

Well slow90coupe, what are the reasons YOU want to trade?

#1 reason- my car is black. I can't stand a black car. If you can't tell, i'm very OCD about how clean my cars are. It is killing me trying to keep it clean.

2. It's going to kill me to DD this car to high school. I will always be scared about what could be happening around my car.

3. I like the styling of a new edge better

4. MORE POWER!!! kinda...

But the car is definately not near as nice as mine, but it's still a pretty nice car. I'd rate it above everage.

1) Black is a nicer color. You have to work harder to keep it clean, but it pays off when it is clean.
2) The older car will be less likely to be screwed with in the parking lot.
3) ...
4) Do a PI swap. It is simple and you will have more power due to the manual vs. slush box.

I'd vote to keeping yours as well.

I might suggest trading cars for a weekend or a week, and seeing what you both think about driving each others'. I still think that your car is more fun to drive, regardless of being paranoid or OCD about it being parked at school.

Thanks for all the input guys! I backed out of the deal.

As for a PI swap.. eh. You couldn't pay me to tear into a nice stock car like this one. It will stay stock as long as I have it. Mod motors seem to be lots more complicated that 5.0 pushrods that i'm used to. I've got my coupe for going fast, and this car for nice, sunny cruises.

Glad you kept it. I prefer the new edge style but yours is clean and his, well, isn't. Painting that hood is 300 and you would need to repair/replace the bumper and have it painted as well. His looks all of the 135K miles and yours looks like it has 70K. Plus the auto would have made me not even consider it, I know some people love auto's but if its my car I want to shift the gears myself.

Good decision SN-95 Aero > SN-95 New Edge. Besides your car is clean as frack inside and out. If/when you feel the need for more power a PI swap will net you more HP than the 99+ anyways d/t the increase in CR.

Regarding the mod motor, it really isn't that complicated. I've installed 2 sets of cams (PI and now NPI MHS stage 2 N/A) and these engines are actually quite simple to work on IMO. The biggest challenge is installing the f**king cam covers w/o bumping off the gasket on the cam towers :fuss:

I could probably do a cam install from start to finish in one day if I did it again.
