Is there a supplier that offers the 87-93 type polished tail pipes for the 65 mustang? Been doing a search for the last couple of hours with no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
check 5.0 Resto or maybe get some off a fox and polish them.Either way, your gonna have to modify them to make them fit since i dont think anybody makes them for that year.
The Flowmaster "American Thunder" exhaust kit for early Mustangs has polished / chromed straight tailpipes. They use a hanger system similar to the Fox cars, too.
Check the Flowmaster website for a parts diagram; you might be able to find part numbers for the tailpipes only, if that's what you need.
Thanks for the replies. I will contact flowmaster and see if that is a option. I already have there 40 seriies w/ turndowns before the rear axle installed. I need to finish running the tail pipes out the back soon. Thanks again.
I agree the Flowmaster American Thunder Kit is probably your best bet for something off the shelf. It's available in 2.25" or 2.5". I have the 2.5" kit on my 65 and really like the look. Here's a search from Summit:
I contacted summit and they are suppose to be finding out if they can get just the pipes. Eleanor 350, on your 65 does yours come through the rear valance or below it? You wouldnt happen to have a picture you could post would you? Thanks
They come out below the valance. I don't think Flowmaster makes a kit like that where they come through the valance like a GT. If you want them through the valance I'd just have tail pipes fabbed locally and find some short exhaust tips that you like. That's all that's going to show through the valance anyway. If you like them below the valance, I've been very pleased with the look of my stainless tail pipes. Attached are some pics. The tailpipes are kinda hard to see for the shadows but you get the idea. Believe it or not those pics are of the same car.
Thanks for the pics, i think they look good below the valance. I contacted summit racing and they wouldn't do a special order since they dont stock them. Contacted Jegs performance and they would have to special order them also. Flowmaster will have to bend some up the next time they run them. They wouldnt remove them from a kit. Said it would be 3-5 days before they would be ready to ship and would have to get back with me on the price. I may be better off buying the whole kit, but will see after they give me a price on just the tailpipes. Thanks
