Hey guys I haven't been that active on here lately, mostly because I haven't had a Mustang in almost 5 years :notnice: but as you can see by my sa-weet red user name, I have been around for quite awhile. Ten years flies by, let me tell ya.

Anyway, I am slowly working myself back into a position to get a Mustang again. I have been brainstorming about what style to get, and as cool as the New Edge cars are, I keep coming back to the good ol' Fox.

I came across this 88 LX on Craigslist ***1988 MUSTANG LX 5.0 5 SPD *****

As you can see it has had some nice work done to it and is a nice drive-while-you-restore/modify type of car, except for one thing...

What do you guys think? I have never tackled fixing something like this, the only one I've owned that had this type of thing going on...I sold.

The price doesn't seem too bad, what do you think you might offer??

Thanks pals! :nice:

if you want a true project and want to invest about 4K total then buy this car. If you just want a mustang that is turn key and stockish go buy someone's nicer 5.0 for 4K and be done with it.

I figure this car would sell for 1800-2100

He's lucky the engine hasn't fallen out of the car with that framerail rust. I'm sure the k-member supports in the framerail are toast. I personally hate rust repair, so that alone would probably be a dealbreaker for me. Did he say how many miles are on the car? Didn't see it in the listing.

Btw, if you're ever in PA for some reason, stop by and catch up! It's been a while.

According to the seller, the rust has not gone deeply into the rail itself, its the sheet metal of the strut tower that is bad. I hate rust too, but the rest of the car seems too good to pass up, considering the price. Of course if it wasnt for the rust, the car would sell for a bit more $$$

After seeing the pictures of the rust, I backed away a little...but I keep wondering if I should go see it in person.

Here's what my car had:

The only thing that scares me is that you can't see the rust in the framerail until you open it up. The only way I realized that mine was rusted was when I pulled the k-member and saw that one of the bolts looked like it had been knawed at by a gerbil for 20 years. The outside of the framerails looked fine, but the tubular k-member supports inside were swiss cheese. I had to cut them out they were so bad.

Hell, you could cut it open, and things could look like this (pic from trbofox's thread)

Okay, his car was really bad, but you never know what could be luking in those framerails.

However, with the amount of parts this guy has in the car, and if it rides and drives as nice as he says it does, it may be worth it if you can knock him down a couple hundred. Tackle the rust once the engine falls out of the car ;)

This.

Though I would say the car is worth about $1500 tops.

I was thinking of offering him $2000, maybe I will say like $1800 because that hole is so wide open that the insides of the frame rails could definitely be bad. It's winter so now is the time to get to work!
