It sounds like its coming from the tranny or rear end. Almost the sound straight cut gears make. My 94 didnt do this, but I figured it might be something with the t-45 tranny.

Well, then, not your idler pulley! I'll shut up now and let someone more knowledgeabe answer the question. Good luck!

Hey Everyone,

Im looking at an 03 GT that whines when you downshift. Once the revs go up it whines pretty loud for a second till they drop. This normal for this year stang? The guy could have done aftermarket gears, as it has new control arms and springs, etc.

This is normal, if your downshifting to slow down then yeah your going to hear
the gears whine abit. Mine does this all the time, Im not concerned what so ever.

my 2002 5-speed does it, i was worried about it at first. but then i was told it was normal, so i dont mind. it does it everytime i downshift while slowing down when the rpm's climb, so i wouldnt worry about it :nice:

it should be the tranny i believe the 3650's have straighter gears than all the other ford trannys. mine whines loud enought in 1st and 2nd sometimes it is mistaken for a blower.
