Hey guys, I just purchased a Tubular GT40 upper and lower intake manifold and i am not currently at home so I cannot give any specific details yet. I just found out that i might of accidentally bought lightning intake manifolds. I know the 351w will not fit on my 302. Can anybody help me to make a POSITIVE id on which manifold I purchased?? Thanks a lot!!!!!

LOL. I was about to say, if you managed to get a 351 lower for a good price, you just got lucky. You can easily trade that for a 302 lower and make some money.

Thanks for the input guys. My wife just emailed me a few pics of it and ill post them so maybe someone can ID them. I did some research and I think I have the 302 but a second opinion never hurts!!

Pretty sure that RF and BA part number is a 302. I will leave that up to the couple guys on here that know that stuff but it sounds familiar to what I remember. The upper is hader to port from the design but it helps a lot if thst lower is done for sure.

Well I guess I paid the right amount. Now this is a tubular GT40 upper intake and lower I bought. The only thing I am missing is the bolts. If anyone knows where I can get a set of bolts, that would be great!!

yeah I confirmed that the BB is the 351 but with me not being able to physically look at it, I got a little nervous after dropping $650.00
Did I over pay?

The "BA" denotes that it was the same lower used in original GT40/Cobra and '96 through early-'97 Explorer.

The "BB" denotes that it was used on a mid-year '97-01 Explorer.

The differences between the castings can also be identified by the internal EGR deletion on the later manifolds. mid-'97 up manifolds don't have the hole in the centre between runners #3 and #6.

And ouch.....$650 is way expensive for a tubular GT40 intake and out of this world for an Explorer intake. I've seen many....MANY sellers mislabel plain old Explorer manifolds as "Cobra" or "GT40" ones so they can ask top dollar for them. The saddest part is, that they usually get their asking from buyers who don't bother do their research first before doling out the cash.

I've seen Explorer intakes sell at swap meets for as little as $100....and have also had guys argue with me till they're blue in the face turning a blind eye to the truth when it is revealed to them that their faux "Cobra/GT40" intake can be had on any V8 Explorer in North America. And even then most still rarely listen. They're also the same ones I usually see packing the majority of their items unsold, back onto the trailer at the end of the weekend as well.

A picture of the upper intake will tell the story...but IMO, unless you're really a stickler for running all original parts, $650 is pretty outrageous for a lower end intake like a GT40.

To give you an ideal....I paid half that for my Trick Flow Track Heat intake and it's flow capabilities put the Cobra/GT40/Explorer manifold to shame.

Very true. I will ask my wife to send a pic of the upper intake when she wakes up. My plan is to build an all motor GT40 Mustang. I guess you can say I am being a stickler for using all ford parts. And Personally I like the way the tubular GT40 intake looks and the gaps between intake runners helps disburse heat so i guess its a win/win situation. Here is a pic similar to the intake I just bought.

You paid top of the range I feel but not OUT of the range. The tubular is expensive. If that is what you want, well you got one for what I see them bringing at auction some times. Yes it could be had cheaper local here by watching the craigslist ads. I would hope it is a nice one for that money. I've see them polished for that. The lower you posted IS a 5.0 unit.
