Vinyl Wrap

I'm interested, as I've mentioned a few times, in getting my car wrapped instead of repainted
But I've got a few questions for anyone who's gone down that road.

How crucial is the bodywork?

Small imperfections and whatnot. I imagine they're every bit as noticeable.

Rough idea of a cost?

Compared to paint I'd hope cheaper.
Just wanting a solid color, no graphics.

What kind of colors am I limited to?

I wouldn't think there's really any "depth" to a wrap so a sonic blue or similar wouldn't really work?

I've seen many vehicles wrapped. Mostly fleet or business cars, trucks, rollbacks. DON'T DO IT. It is a great idea. It is great for advertisement. It is not good for up close looks at all. Seams. Dirt in seams. Peeling in time. Sun and wrap don't mix for long. Wrinkles. Bubbles. I can go on forever. A lot of police agencies wrap the white or black on their cars. Take a look some time. Not good.

The car won't be driven a lot. Sits in a garage and out of the sun. Washed on a regular basis and generally is and will be well maintained.
And I don't expect it to last 5+ years.
I see your point, and agree to a point.
If it was my DD or got any kind of regular use harsh weather I'd completely be against it.
That's why I'm thinking about trying it myself. Far far cheaper, albeit not a pro job. But for $500~ for 970RA wrap or sub $300 for a cheap 2mm wrap there's not much to lose
If I thought it really had a chance of lasting a long while I'd be more apt to get it done professionally.
It's just a thought at this point. I just want the cars exterior looks to be on par with all the money and time spent on the driveline.

Had a buddy get his Supra done in a matte black. Looked ok until you got about 5ft away....then you can see all the imperfections. Think it cost him about $800?

That's how my paint is now. Car is smooth as can be and rust free, but when you get about 10 ft from it, the paint just sucks.
If it's gonna leave me in the same boat then I'd rather spend the money elsewhere

I love my vinyl wrap. The bodywork needs to be 100% perfect or you will see the imperfections. Vinyl doesn't hide anything!(ask me why I know that lol) Te sky is the limit for colors, gloss, matte etc. Depending on who does it, I've seen great work and horrible work. Fwiw my 2015 will be wrapped in vinyl when I get it

Plasti-dip hasn't really impressed me

I dipped a set of wheels, and while they were flat black like I expected, I can't see how it'd look good on a whole car

In subscribed to the channel and will get a kit once I get a good and number. Results look impressive.

Dip looks good from 10 feet... up close not so much. It bubbles up and isn't smooth.

Vinyl wrap looks good personality you can get some pretty crazy design on it for a much better price then painting

Body work is super important! Every flaw will be visiable. The only way to get around that is to use a very "busy" background so you don't notice the imperfections. With the new vinyls, bubbles aren't an issue, just don't be cheap about what vinyl you buy. Seams will be noticeable though, if you are going with a solid color.

That being said, I'm pretty sure I'm going to wrap my fox this winter. My cheap paint job is already showing its age, and it is much easier for me to wrap it, then to paint it! For us to wrap a whole car, it would be $2k and up. It takes a long time!

The bucket truck was "road commision yellow" and the hearse was white. Notice how busy the backgrounds are. This hides flaws / seams!

I'd like to know prices as well. I want to get my boat done but from what I've been seeing, it ain't cheap for the material
