I just purchased my first Mustang!!! It's a beautiful 1992 LX 5.0 Convertible with 41k miles. I plan on doing my first maintenance such as oil, oil filter, air filter and spark plugs. What else? Fuel filter?

Also, what oil viscosity? Do I use the Ford recommendations or go a little thicker?

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Manny

I would go ahead and change the cap, rotor, and plug wires, also don't bother buying any new fangled type of sparkplug as the plain old copper ones work best in the 5.0. You could check the timing and replace the belt along with the things you listed.

I would stick to all ford products such as motorcraft for the tune up....

oil change
oil filter
Fuel Filter
New spark plugs,
New coils or wires (if you have the money)
transmission fluid (if automatic)
Air Filter( I would change to cold air intake if haven't done so yet)

Sounds good.

where is the Fuel Filter?
I plan on getting a K&N air filter for the factory housing. the car is completely stock and i want to keep it that way, other than the flowmasters i installed yesterday!!!!!

What viscosity oil should i use?
Where can i buy motorcraft parts online? i assume it will be cheaper online than at my local dealer.

what state do you live in? viscosity depends on weather.

You can get all of these parts online at autozone.

The fuel filter is located in back of the car right behind the gas tank. you might have to lift up the car to change this.

should i stick with motorcraft parts?
Motorcraft parts are over priced and are made in Mexico and China. Google it. Get a BWD cap and rotor. If you have the money get a good thick set of plug wires such as Taylors. Oil, you'll be fine w 10w30 and change regularly. The only difference you'll notice between "regular" and synthetic is the price.

A lot of seasoned fox guys say don't waste money on a cold air kit, just remove the silencer and replace the panel filter with a k&n. The factory setup actually pulls cold air from the fender, as most "cold air kits" don't and you see no difference in performance. I have only used one aftermarket cai and it was more hassle to me than it was worth.

I ran 14.2's with a bone stock brand new 93 GT with just a k&n panel filter,2.73 gears, stock Michelin tires, air silencer removed. I then added a underhood cone filter/intake and actually slowed down. Also had a wandering idle because of that open element. If staying "stock" just add the k&n.
